“Well, what now?”
Gath and Relkir had both set aside five days to move into their new home. Between finalizing the paperwork, boxing everything up, moving it from their two separate homes to their new, much bigger place, getting the new furniture they needed and unboxing everything and putting everything back together and in the right place, that normally took five days. But it turned out, their kid was insanely powerful and had somehow moved everything themselves. Sure, there were some smaller boxes that hadn’t been unpacked yet, but the important stuff was all pretty much done. All that was really left was handing in the keys to their old homes, but that couldn’t be done until the five guaranteed days were up and the House-Legion member came to pick them up.
“I have no idea…”
Upstairs, faint snoring could be heard. The last thing Litvir had done was put together their own bed and loosely throw several sheets on it, before abruptly running out of energy and falling asleep. They had seemed rather unsettled in general lately, and Relkir was sure they had done all this home stuff as a way to calm themselves down. But also, being a deity and a one year old at the same time meant Litvir would routinely forget to do normal things like eating and sleeping and they had clearly forgotten for a while, so they were also just really tired and hungry, and exhaustion had overcome all over senses.
Of course, Gath had diligently covered Litvir in a blanket and tucked them in, leaving them to sleep, but now, there wasn’t much left to do. The important stuff had all been done. They were all moved in. This house, with its three bedrooms, office and roof garden, it all now belonged to Gath and Relkir. The married couple with an adopted kid. And, potentially, a second kid on the way.
“Well, we have time on our hands…”
Relkir began wandering around their new home, pausing only to take a picture of their sleeping kid. They found it weird that Relkir had originally not liked Litvir that much, and now Relkir was Litvir’s adopted father. And because of their and Gath’s guidance, Litvir was growing up into a fine person.
“Are you alright, dear?” Gath asked as they put an arm around Relkir.
“Yes, I am just a little flummoxed. And a little scared for the future.”
“I get that. And we… ought to work on that.”
Relkir eyed Gath. “Right now?”
“The bed is all set up. Everything is just… somewhat done. We do not have anything else to do.”
Relkir frowned. “While I would like some fun time, I do not want to do it while Litvir is here. They… do not need to hear the noises we make. But at the same time… look at them. They are so cute and sleepy. I do not want to move them. They deserve their rest, because they are a good kid.”
“Fair enough…” Gath grunted. “When Litvir leaves though, I… I do want to play. And I want to try a few things.”
“Like what? Because what we really need to try is to see a sexual health doctor and getting you tested. There may be something wrong.”
“It is embarrassing.”
“No one needs to know.”
Gath grunted some more. “Vok will see me going into a sexual health clinic.”
“If anyone asks, and they should not ask because it is none of their business, but if they do, you are there for me, I am not there for you. No one needs to know.”
“I… I guess…” Gath shrugged, then wandered off, leaving Litvir to sleep so they could inspect the rest of their new home. The room next door was empty, there was no point putting anything in it until things were… more confirmed. The third bedroom, the master bedroom, that though definitely was not empty. It had a large bed in the middle of the room but the bed hadn’t been made yet.
“There are plenty of things we can do in the mean time though!” Relkir perked up. “We have this time off, we can spend one of the days taking you to the doctor, people will not expect us to be there, so you can offload some of your privacy concerns, especially since the clinic is walk-in.”
“I do not want to do that today though.”
“Tomorrow then?”
“Day after. I am not quite ready. I want to settle a little, first.”
Relkir tutted. “Fine, I guess. But I still want to do… something right now. We have our new home, we have a sleeping baby, there are things we ought to do… and maybe we should celebrate as well.”
“Celebrate how?”
Relkir thought for a moment, then headed back downstairs. The kitchen wasn’t quite set up yet. The cold food had been put into the fridge-freezer and had been turned on, but there were still boxes that needed to be put away. And Relkir admittedly couldn’t be bothered to deal with that right now. Also not set up was the TV and the sofas were still covered in a protective plastic wrap.
“How about you sort out the sofas, I set up the TV, then we order some takeaway food and we sit down and watch some documentaries together? We can also maybe have a mead or something, since we do not have work tomorrow.”
Gath smiled. “That sounds like a good idea. But there is one thing I want to do first.”
With a slowly growing grin, Gath made their way to the fridge and grabbed two bottles of fizzy drink. They brought them back to Relkir, opened the bottles up then handed one to Relkir.
“Cheers.”
“To us?”
“To us. Now and forever. Our future is bright.”
Relkir nodded in agreement as they chinked their bottle to Gath’s bottle.
“Indeed. And I cannot wait for us to have our second kid.”
“That will be a whole new adventure!” Gath grinned. “Anyway, shall we get started on our little chores and order some food? I think I want noodles.”
Relkir downed their drink and grinned back. “Of course, my beloved, of course.”
