“So, how much experience have you had as a god of destruction?”
The pink walls of this large office seemed to sway as the lavender deity spoke calmly and quietly. Behind the lush desk decorated with flowering purple plants was an almost typical-looking Life Goddess. Half naked, perky breasts sticking out and that familiar nebula-like star affect on her flaming arms, with a halo of stars floating around her head.
“Uh, well…” Arkay hesitated. He wasn’t at all bothered with the flowery display in front of him. “I’m not sure how long it was in standard coordinated drake time, but I was essentially a god of decay for a billion years in one universe, a mindless force of nature for a good 10 billion years and a proper god of death, destruction and decay for two billion years, give or take.”
“Not bad, not bad at all…” The Life Goddess chewed on the end of her pen, then licked it, erasing the bite marks she has just caused. “So you definitely have experience. Did you ever cause trouble for other deities?”
“What do you mean?” Arkay asked.
“Did you ever try to kill other gods while you were a universe-bound death god?”
Arkay shook his head, feeling slightly insulted. “Only in retaliation, after they had tried to kill me repeatedly. The stuff Yisini tried to do alone, I should have killed her multiple times but always held back.”
“What did this Yisini do to you?”
“She mostly just tried to kill me, but she also experimented on me a lot.”
“Experimented?” The Life Goddess blinked. “As in..?”
“She tried to mind-control me repeatedly. She was under the impression that she could make immortality by controling me and rummaging through my brain.”
The Life Goddess blinked some more. “And the other gods? What did they do?”
“They always looked the other way.”
The conversation paused, almost dramatically. The Life Goddess checked her notes, then wrote a few things down.
Arkay took a deep breath. “I kinda thought you had all my info on record.”
“We do.”
“So why are you interviewing me?”
The Life Goddess smiled, little vampire-like teeth jutting utting out under her lips.
“Because, despite reading all about you, knowing your past, seeing who you are, it’s always better to hear things straight from the source. Especially from someone with a background like yours.”
“I assume my background makes me… kinda rare, since everyone constantly asks me about it…” Arkay sighed.
“A death godthat doesn’t want to kill those who mistreat it is very… unusual. Most of those we interview are much more aggressive than you, which makes them only really good for large jobs, like swallowing stars. We are looking for someone who can do the little jobs, dealing with planets and chaotic evil entities. A recycler rather than complete and utter destruction.”
“Huh…” Arkay trailed off slightly. “I guess I always saw myself as a recycler. Destroying things so they can be rebuilt better…”
“Exactly!” The Life Goddess beamed. “We want cleansing flames, not just cosmic destruction. This is why we invited you to our services.”
“So… Am I hired?”
“This interview will be looked at by my superiors, and you will be notified within a few days.”
Arkay leaned back in his chair, feeling quite happy. “That is good to hear.”
The Life Goddess bowed. “Indeed. Thank you for your cooperation. You’re free to leave.”
“Thank you for considering me!” Arkay smiled as he got up and started to leave. “I really appreciate it…”
