Home

Arkay collapsed on his bed, panting heavily. The ceiling above him was blank and white, with a single strip of a light that was currently turned off. The company that had helped him move his larger furniture had been and gone, and now he was on his own. He’d been alone for a bit, moving furniture around. Currently, all around him was his new, large bed, which he had just shoved into the corner of the room. The window was open with a temporary curtain covering the unopened section. There was a tiny bit of a draught, but it was somewhat cooling.

Rolling over, Arkay inspected the rest of the room, his panting slowing down. There were too many teddy bears. People had told him he had too many stuffed animals, but he didn’t really care. It was his house, so it operated under his rules.

That last thought made Arkay pause. This place, the place Arkay was lying in, it was all his. Well, not technically his. He was renting this apartment. But this place was his own little home. Silent neighbours, no other people, just the odd rush of traffic downstairs. His home. Arkay’s home. His home, and no one else’s.

This thought made Arkay quite happy. Having finally stopped panting, Arkay got up out of bed and peered through the window. The sky above was a dark blue, the fake night sky that Deathven had as part of its artificial day and night cycle. Below, a medley of vehicles went by, in opposite directions. The traffic wasn’t too bad though, there’d be long, quiet gaps between the occasional heavy revving. And the revving wasn’t even that bothersome. The road Arkay was now living on was quite short, so any noises quickly faded behind other buildings. As for neighbours, he did apparently have some, and he’d met several of them while moving stuff in, but everyone was super quiet. Just like Arkay was.

The quiet was just one of the nice things about this place. This place was now filled with Arkay’s stuff, stuff that belonged solely to him. Well, except for one of the sofas. One of them belonged to Kalis. But Kalis had no room for it, so Arkay took it. It was Arkay’s sofa now. Kinda. Still, Arkay was going to enjoy it for as long as it was there. It was comfy as well.

Tired of the bedroom, Arkay wandered into what was now his living room. In it were his two sofas and his desk, which he was going to work from the next day. That being said, he needed to go back to his and Kalis’s old apartment, to clean the place up. But after that, Arkay would be, well, free. Hopefully.

But those worries were for tomorrow. Arkay was living in the present. He didn’t need to worry about those things for at least a good few hours.

After a quick jolt to the kitchen to get himself some water to drink, Arkay headed back to his desk and sat down. He turned on his laptop and put on something fun to watch.

“I can’t believe it…” Arkay smirked, settling himself down. “This place is mine…”
