There was a weird knock on the bathroom door, followed by an awkward voice. Teekay opened the door ever so slightly, peering through the crack. On the other side was Elkay, looking confused and naked.
“Teekay, your communicator is vibrating…”
“Then answer it.”
“I do not recognise the number. It also says “Private” on it. I do not think I should answer it for you.”
Elkay slipped the communicate through the gap and into Teekay’s hands. Teekay glanced at the number and recognised it immediately.
“Fine, I’ll answer it. But do me a favour and don’t listen in. This is, as the number says, private.”
The naked Rethan nodded then pulled the door shut, leaving Teekay to his own devices. Teekay double-checked the number, tutted, then finally answered.
“Enkay, you know that 1. I am retired now and 2. I have a specific device you are supposed to call me on.”
A somewhat gruff voice on the other end grunted. It wasn’t as gruff as Elkay’s voice, but for a Skyan, it was gruff enough.
“Sorry, Teekay. I would have used the other device but I have a few days off and wanted to contact you in a personal manner. Is that running water I hear? I’m not interrupting anything, am I?”
Teekay turned the shower off. He had been in the middle of cleaning himself down after a sweaty afternoon of walking around, chores and other, more fun things.
“Oh, you took some time off?” Teekay asked. “And no, I was just in the shower. Left my communicator in the living area.”
“That… is unlike you…” Enkay muttered. “But yes, I took some time off. It has been hectic ever since you left, and what with me being vaguely attractive in the eyes of the All-Ksa, it’s hard getting anything done.”
“Fair enough. How much time do you have off?”
“A few days. I was planning on spending most of it just chilling, but I was also considering maybe asking you if you wanted to go out for coffee?”
Teekay hesitated. “What, like a date?”
“Nah. I know you met someone anyway. I just wanted to see you since it’s been a while. Maybe meet your new partner as well.”
“He’s… not really someone you can meet…”
Enkay laughed. “I guessed as much! Well, how about you and I meet for coffee and we can talk about it more then? Maybe see how things go and I’ll come by yours later on?”
Teekay was still hesitant. “I… I don’t know…”
“Come on! It’ll be fun! Plus, I’d really, really like to meet your partner. I mean, they must be amazing if they managed to seduce you. And we haven’t seen each other in ages! We used to chat pretty regularly and this is the first time I’ve heard your voice since all that nasty religion stuff went down!”
“Alright…” Teekay relented. “I’ll come and meet you for coffee. That nice place we used to meet? Tomorrow at around noon?”
Teekay swore he could almost hear Enkay smiling down the phone. “Wonderful! I can’t bloody wait! I’ll see you then, alright?”
“Yeah, sure. See you tomorrow.”
“See ya!”
The line went dead. Teekay sighed, then started drying himself off.
“Is everything well in there?” a voice asked from outside.
“Yeah, everything’s fine…” Teekay sighed one last time. “It’s all fine…”
