Midnight Dragon Visit

Arkadin growled menacingly as he ripped the blanket off his body and threw it in the face of an intruder. He quickly calmed down though when he realised who it was.

“What the fuck are you doing in here?”

Kairos pulled the blanket away, pausing to feel how soft and snuggly it was.

“Uh…”

“How did you get in?”

“You left a window open…” Kairos admitted. “I assumed because the window was open, you were open to visitors.”

Arkadin rolled his eyes. “Did you not see that all the lights were off? That everything else was shut? Did you seriously think…” The Thantophor paused. “No, of course you didn’t think…”

Kairos muttered an apology as he watched Arkadin sit up, throw a wrap around his stomach and chuck some armour on his chest and shoulders. He then puffed out his cheeks, which seemed to make his tail extend and his familiar black flames erupt on his hands and feet.

“So what do you want?” the Thantophor tutted as he stormed out of his bedroom and into the living room. “Got some sort of stupid plan? Want me to stop killing things? What?”

Kairos followed Arkadin into the living room and sat uneasily on the sofa. “I just… I can leave if you want.”

“No, you’re here now…” Arkadin sighed. “What is it?”

“Well… Did you sleep well? You don’t seem like you slept well.”

Arkadin calmed down a little as he realised Kairos was just trying to be nice. “No, I’ve been having a lot of bad dreams lately.”

“What about?”

The Thantophor shrugged. “I’m not really sure. An impossible future? A potential alternate timeline? A time before now? I don’t know. But what I do know is that it’s all suffering.”

“They’re just dreams though.”

“Still painful.”

“Maybe you need to go out a bit so you stop thinking about them?” Kairos suggested. “Maybe talk to people and do things rather than sit around here being sad?”

“I’m trying that!” Arkadin snapped. He quickly apologised though. “Sorry… but I’ve been trying. Going out in the sunshine, talking to people, trying to make friends. Doesn’t stop the endless bad dreams.”

“You always have bad dreams?”

“Most of the time.”

Kairos shrugged. “I get a lot of bad dreams too. Dreams of being somewhere else…”

“Where it’s just Kinisis and Kenon?”

“Yeah. And you and me, I guess.”

Arkadin rubbed his eyes, then changed the subject. “I’m sorry… What did you want to talk about? Because you clearly aren’t here to talk about how I slept.”

“I wanted to talk about my date…”

“Oh!” Arkadin’s expression suddenly lit up. “How did it go?!”

“It went really well!” Kairos beamed. “We went to the cinema and watched a movie then we went to this place that sold really nice fast food burgers and then we chatted for a bit while we ate said burgers then I walked Phovos home. Was nice!”

“You planning on another date?”

“Yeah, we’re going to go to a nice restaurant next week, I think. She said she’d call me when she worked out her schedule since she’s got work and stuff.

Arkadin smiled, the news of Kairos’s date had cheered him up. “I’m so glad. Sounds weird but you two seem to get along really well.”

Kairos nodded in agreement. “I really like Phovos. And I think she really likes me.”

“I’m glad you’re happy…”

The two deities both fell silent.

“You know what?” Kairos finally smiled.

“What?”

“You could do with a boyfriend or something.”

Arkadin tutted as he got up and went to the front door. “Okay, you can fuck off now.”

“Seriously!” Kairos exclaimed. “It’d be good for you! Therapeutic even!”

“Yeah no…” Arkadin growled as he shoved Kairos outside. “Fuck off.”

“Serious-”

The door slammed shut in Kairos’s face. The Whenvern wasn’t annoyed though. He simply closed his eyes and smiled.

“He definitely wants a boyfriend…” Kairos whispered to himself as he flew off.
