Arkay paced up and down his bedroom, trying to clear his mind and forget about the universe outside. A massive event was going on, a potential lead-up to a war and an all-round awful thing with people dying. A crazed being had attacked the two biggest bases for former deities in the known space between universes, having also attacked and nearly destroyed a Time Drake outpost and multiple Voidborn bases.
Normally, Arkay would have been asking his peers how to help with these things. Helping the wounded, providing shelter for vok fleeing the bases, making meals for the hungry and homeless, that sort of thing. Arkay had never liked sitting around idly.
All that desire to help though was completely gone, having drained away the first time Arkay saw the perpetrator. Most of the images and video of this being were very shaky and messed up, but there was at least some confirmation as to who the attacker was.
“This just in!” the television in the living area abruptly switched to the nearest news channel. “The being known as Vryda has disappeared. All Decayon bases must switch to defensive positions, as it is believed that Vryda may attack again.”
Arkay sighed, then calmed down a little. The fact that the monster behind all this destruction had disappeared was both a good thing and a bad thing. The good news was that no more death and damage could have been done. The bad news was that, well, pretty much anything could happen. For all Arkay knew, this Vryda entity have just disappeared forever, or it could have been taking a small break or something.
Suddenly, the television flashed brightly. Somehow, in all of this chaos, death and destruction, almost miraculously, someone had managed to take a handful of pictures of Vryda. Not the best pictures, but the entity was visible in true colours. The finding of these photos became plastered across multiple news channels and were beginning to dissect the appearance of Vryda.
The moment Arkay saw those photos, his heart sank. This Vryda entity was… a lot like Arkay. At least, it was somewhat visually. Golden yellow armour delicately covering nearly black skin, carrying a large weapon and having a tail longer than the rest of their body. And the worst part of it all? They had worked out what type of Periuniversal being Vryda was. She was a mimic hybrid. Just like Arkay.
“For fuck’s sake…” Arkay snarled as he muted the television. “I really hope they won’t blame me for this.”
Arkay’s anger though was swiftly muted by a knock on the front door. With a very annoyed sigh, Arkay got up and made his way to the front door, wandering why someone would be knocking right now. That anger simmered down slightly though as Arkay peered through the small peep hole.
“Arkay, are you free? We need to have a talk.”
On the other side of the door was Vikalos, the caring doctor who dealt with beings like Arkay. Clearly he had seen the same announcement.
“I need you hybrids to meet me in my office.”
“Is this about Vryda?” Arkay asked.
“Yes.”
Arkay opened the door, feeling rather defeated. “Fine. I’ll come. Can I have a minute to throw on a wrap?”
“Of course. Take your time. I will see you in my office shortly.”
“Well this is terrifying…” Arkay muttered as he headed back into his room. “Hopefully it’ll be nothing too serious…”
