Tea with Enkay

Moonrock Cafe was always quiet in the afternoons. It was a cafe built mainly to serve working K-Class Skyans, all of whom had strict time tables and busy schedules, meaning there were very obvious dead spots throughout the day. These dead spots where why Teekay had wanted to meet with Enkay now, rather than later on when the K-Class shifts changed.

The initial meeting had been somewhat cold. Enkay had always been Teekay’s second-in-command when Teekay was the head of the K-Class, and now that Teekay was (forcibly) retired, he felt that Enkay had jumped into his place. He had always seen Enkay as a much nicer, much more relatable version of himself, even if Enkay wasn’t as experienced as he was, and that bothered Teekay more than he’d liked to admit.

Over the course of a couple of drinks though, Teekay quickly mellowed out. It turned out Enkay was absolutely fine. And not a threat like the deep, animal part of Teekay’s mind imagined.

“So, enough of me!” Enkay laughed, changing the subject from a talk about his disastrous last holiday. “How about you? You’ve gotta be doing something with all your newfound spare time?”

Teekay shrugged. He’d ordered a very creamy milk and chocolate coffee and was still stirring up the froth. “Honestly, very little. But I like doing very little. It is so… wonderful, being able to get out of bed whenever I want.”

“How many times have you slept in until noon?”

“Oh, never noon. I am always up by 10am latest…”

Enkay nodded. “Yeah, I get that. I tried sleeping in yesterday, woke up at 8, couldn’t sleep at all. At least you have someone to tuck you in though, right?”

Teekay squinted at Enkay, leaning forward anxiously. “How… how does everyone know about that already? I haven’t spoken to… anyone… Yet here you are, knowing that I have a partner…”

“Well, aside from the fact that there was an incident at your home involving some rather… worrying Rethavok that was reported to me via the Arbiters and that the R- and K-Classes have a small investigation into, news spreads fast. Teekay, former K-Class Ksa, the massive loner who did nothing but work from the age of 5 who never even talked to other beings unless he needed to, suddenly being seen in public with a strange, heavily built othervok? You know just as well as I do that us Skyans fucking suck at keeping secrets…”

With a sigh, Teekay turned away, feeling embarrassed. Enkay though reached forward and pulled him back.

“Don’t be embarrassed.”

“It is…”

“It’s fine. You’re doing the right thing and making yourself happy in the process. Should you have turned him into us? Probably. But you went out of your way to save someone who we all hate. Well, I say that, I always thought things were getting better between our races and now that’s all going to go away…” Enkay tutted, then smiled. “You’re happy, right?”

“Yes.”

“And he has amnesia?”

“He won’t admit it, but yes.”

“Is it…”

Teekay grunted. “You only really wanted to meet me to ask-”

“No!” Enkay immediately interrupted. “I wanted to meet you. Okay, I won’t deny that there are things we need to know and talk about and this is a good way of doing so, but I’m capable of doing more than one thing at once and I genuinely wanted to come and meet you!”

“Really?”

“Yes. If I really wanted information, you and I both know there are less… enjoyable ways for me to obtain that information…”

“True…”

Both Enkay and Teekay fell silent, sipping their drinks and looking anywhere except at each other.

Suddenly though, Enkay smiled.

“How’s he in bed?”

“Oh… he’s great…”

“Anything interesting?”

“There’s no tying up or BDSM or anything like that, which I know is what you like…” Teekay smiled back.

“You found your flavour though?”

“Definitely… I just wish I hadn’t waited for so long…”
