The Whenvern and the Panelix both knew they were in trouble. It was always easy to tell that their mother Kinisis was pissed off at them because she would grow in size, towering over the two already colossal deities, standing above them menacingly with her arms crossed.
“I see that you didn’t do as I asked.”
“No, we didn’t…” Kairos muttered. He was cowering, but quickly realised he shouldn’t have been, so he straightened himself out. There was no reason to cower. He had gone over this with Epani.
“Where is Arkadin?”
“Arkadin did not want to be found!” Epani stood proud. Or rather, she floated proudly, enjoying this brief feeling of rebellion. “He has hidden himself away and that is how things should stay!”
Kinisis didn’t say anything. Instead she glared at Epani, silently demanding that she explain herself. Epani hesitated slightly, then started talking.
“He does not want us to find him. We could search for decades and he would still hide. That is his own decision and our hunting him down will not solve the situation. Whatever happened, if Arkadin was innocent in this scenario, he would not have run away. So clearly Arkadin has done something wrong and is hiding in shame.”
“Plus…” Kairos interrupted. “Can’t you… just find him whenever you want? I mean, you are… all-powerful. Almost.”
The Allmaker sighed, turning her attention to Kairos. “I am not omnipotent.”
“You kinda are.”
Kinisis rolled her eyes. “I am the personification of this universe, not an all-powerful deity. If I was, I wouldn’t have to put up with the likes of you… Do either of you have at least any idea why Arkadin ran away or where he COULD be hiding?”
Epani shook her head, flicking her tail back and forth. “No. We checked on the mortals that Arkadin normally deals with and none of them had any clue. In fact only two of them had seen Arkadin and they denied his request for help… We also checked a couple of death cults, but all of them were useless. I can see why Arkadin hates them.”
“Everyone hates death cults…” Kairos muttered.
“Indeed.”
The Allmaker sighed again, then began to shrink back down to a height similar to that of Kairos and Epani. She started walking off, towards the large castle in the distance. Why she lived in such a strange place, the deities of space and time had no idea.
“Where are you going?”
“To check on Yisini.”
“Is she okay?” Kairos asked, a hint of worry in his voice.
“She is absolutely fine. She should wake up tomorrow.”
“Really?” Kairos blinked, glancing at Epani. “We thought that… it was a lot more serious than that. That her being unconscious was bad…”
Kinisis turned back at her elder children. “No, don’t be silly. Her being unconscious is no different from when you all take naps. The worst case scenario is that a few more species die and a few million people struggle to conceive children for the next couple of weeks.”
The Panelix and the Whenvern both continued to glance at each other. After a moment of confusion, they turned back to Kinisis.
“Can we… go and see her?”
Kinisis smiled cruelly. “No. I want you to find Arkadin first…”
