A Complete One Eighty

Kairos rolled his eyes as his army of necromancers suddenly exploded in a puff of gore and fire. A Kronospast ship had fired upon them, destroying their much smaller ships. Kairos wasn’t annoyed at the fact that they’d all died, he was more annoyed about them dying before he was ready to have them all die. They were supposed to have been killed a bit later on in a massive blast of self-sacrifice in front of the armies of Yisini and Epani.

To be fair, they were considered threats to the Kronospast empire, and they weren’t very good necromancers anyway. The most they could do was reanimate skeletons.

The Kronospast ship, having not seen the Whenvern, flew off, satisfied that it had dealt with the necromancer problem.

Kairos flew onwards, towards the big gate to Kinigi where he knew Yisini and Epani were gathering their armies. For the first time in a while, time wasn’t on his side. When he got there though, Kairos realised that his worries were not needed. Yisini and Epani were in the middle of a stare-off, growling and gesturing at each other in front of their various forces.

“Kairos, what are you doing here?” Epani snarled as she refused to break eye contact with Yisini.

“Are you working with Arkadin to stop me?” Yisini hissed.

“Uh, no one is working with Arkadin right now…” Kairos flapped his wings, creating gusts of solar wind that destabilized the gathering armies. “He’s not got anything to do with this.”

“HE’S MIND-CONTROLLING KINISIS!” the two goddesses screeched in unison.

“Arkadin doesn’t have mind control powers.”

“Wait what?”

Yisini stopped staring at Epani.

“Are you suggesting we’ve been tricked?”

Kairos shrugged. “Possibly? Maybe? Did you all receive letters from Kenon?”

Epani nodded. Yisini scratched her head, trying to remember, before muttering a quiet yes.

“We were played…” Yisini sighed. “But why?”

The Panelix wriggled her fins, creating portals that teleported the two armies away, then sighed to herself, wondering why she didn’t just do that to her own armies any time someone had attacked in the past.

Again, Kairos shrugged. “I believe it’s because everyone hates Arkadin. I thought Kenon liked Arkadin but clearly he doesn’t any more, so he set us up to hurt the Thantophor and get Kinisis to disassociate with him.”

“Disasso-what?” Yisini was incredibly confused. “Are you basically saying that Kenon got us all fighting each other to get at little Arky?”

“Maybe?”

“That’s… pretty mean.”

“Says the whore who sucks things out of her own children…” Epani muttered under her breath.

Yisini was about to get aggressive, but Karis got between them again, making sure they couldn’t fight.

“Listen. We don’t really know Kenon’s motives. But let’s get one thing clear. None of us like Arkadin. We simply tolerate him. Even Kinisis Herself seems to only just be able to stand Arkadin. Something needs to change and I don’t know what. But we can’t change things unless we all have a proper discussion about this.”

“You want to bring Kenon into this?” Yisini asked.

“Not really. If we have to, we will, but really this is between us deities, not the Voidborn.”

“Where should we meet then?” Epani glanced around. “At one of our places?”

“No, we should meet there, silly!” Yisini pointed at the gate to Kinigi.

Kairos nodded in agreement. “Freshen yourselves up. We’ll meet up back here tomorrow and maybe get a solution to this madness.”
