Bumped Shopping

“Oh piss, sorry!”

Relkai blinked as he looked up. His shopping had gone pretty much everywhere because he hadn’t been looking where he was going. Between working out schedules for the 270th, 271st and 269th Legions, arranging training and exercise days and having to up security because of passing deities, Relkai had barely had ten minutes to himself. Now that he’d had a good 4 hours to himself, he’d decided to go shopping, since his house was empty. But just like everything else lately, it seemed he couldn’t even do that right.

“Sorry, I ran into you…” Relkai muttered.

“Pretty sure I ran into you!” the other Rethan smiled, offering their hand. After a moment, Relkai accepted it and allowed himself to be pulled to his feet, before bending over again to pick up his stuff.

The other Rethan helped him at first, but stopped and stared staring. This made Relkai worry slightly, and he found himself fumbling.

“Do I… have something on me?”

“Oh no, not at all!” the other Rethan was still smiling. They picked up Relkai’s basket and shoved it into his hands, then swiftly picked up all his shopping, handing it all back to him. “You do seem absolutely frazzled though. Are you alright?”

Relkai shook his head. “Just busy. Do not really have time for this. I should be going.”

“Alright then…” the other Rethan shrugged, before picking something else up off the floor. It was a box of pre-made meals for one. That was definitely Relkai’s. As the other Rethan put the box in his basket though, their hands brushed briefly. The two Rethans glanced at each other, then froze.

Eventually, one of them spoke. And it wasn’t Relkai.

“Damn, you are cute.”

“You are… very nice as well…” Relkai stuttered.

“We are in agreement then. We like each other!” The other Rethan beamed. “My name is Revan, pleasure to meet you!”

“I am Relkai Skavournou…” Relkai paused, the realization hitting him like a brick. “Wait… are you Revan Rethianos?”

“The one and only!”

“And you are just here, casually shopping?”

“Picking up some bits and pieces for my dad, yep.”

“Just, out here? Not somewhere… fancy?”

Revan nodded. “What, did you think I shopped somewhere amazing? I do my shopping same as everyone else.”

“Huh…” Relkai blinked, still looking kinda confused. His expression though changed to one of sadness. “I am sorry, I really must go. It was nice meeting you, but I have so, so much planning that needs to be done.”

“Oh? Got training to do?”

“No, I have a Legion to organize.”

“You are a general?!” Revan beamed, seeming both shocked, impressed and weirdly glad. “Hang on, I think I have a vague idea who you are as well! You are in charge of the 270th Legion! The fresh young General!”

“Uh, yes. And a very busy General too…” Relkai sighed. “I really must be going. Thank you for helping me pick up my stuff…”

Before Relkai could leave though, he felt Revan place a hand on his shoulder.

“Hey, I know you are busy, but I would love to go out together sometime. When you are free, give me a call?”

Revan slipped a piece of paper into Relkai’s basket. On it was Revan’s number and contact details.

“Really?”

“Yes!”

Relkai smiled a little. “I… I will have to check my schedule. But I will definitely give you a call when I have the time.”

“Lovely! See you round!” Revan grinned as he bounced off, leaving Relkai very confused but also rather happy for once.
