Checking In With The Boss

Terrorbane: Hello, Dawnbreaker. Your superior, Lightstalker, informed me that you are alive and well and requested I check in on you. When are you returning back to base?

Dawnbreaker: Uh…

Dawnbreaker: Sorry. I’m still kinda messed up by what happened.

Terrorbane: Your ship was thrown into Patagenic, though Phantai territories, and you were hit by Corruption. Lightstalker informed me that you travelled to the base of the Thantir to get yourself fixed up.

Dawnbreaker: Yeah. That’s basically it.

Terrorbane: Is something wrong?

Dawnbreaker: Kinda.

Dawnbreaker: My ship’s still kinda damaged. A couple of the little robot guys have gone to a nearby pit stop to get the parts I need.

Terrorbane: Understandable. Do you know how long repairs will take?

Dawnbreaker: 7-9 hours, probably.

Terrorbane: Are you clear of corruption?

Dawnbreaker: Yes. All clear.

Terrorbane: You seem at ill ease. Are you in shock?

Dawnbreaker: Um…

Dawnbreaker: No, not… not the dangerous sort of shock. If anything, I’m feeling extraordinarily lucky right now. But that, uh, luckiness is clashing with my other emotions.

Terrorbane: Do you require time off duty?

Dawnbreaker: Maybe.

Dawnbreaker: My team were in danger, we lost three ships and I got yeeted into the next pentacluster, literally. And somehow my ship didn’t crash too badly when it arrived at Savepoint because the Thantir have two fucking Time Drakes and a couple of Grav-Mags that stopped my ship from destroying their parking lot.

Dawnbreaker: Apparently ships crashing into their base happens once an ev, so they were prepared for it.

Dawnbreaker: It’s kinda a miracle that I’m alive right now.

Terrorbane: We can give you some time off duty if you need it.

Dawnbreaker: I… uh…

Dawnbreaker: Boss, I think I have a bigger problem right now.

Terrorbane: What is it?

Dawnbreaker: I… kinda… don’t want to come back.

Terrorbane: What do you mean?

Dawnbreaker: Half the Thantir, I know them. It turns out that Retvik… uh… Flamebearer, he’s… a really old friend of mine.

Terrorbane: You know Flamebearer?

Terrorbane: Personally?

Dawnbreaker: Yeah. We were mortals in the same universe. He joined the Thantir and now runs the sect entirely, alongside an old death god, and a vampire-like Rethan who I don’t really know.

Dawnbreaker: Turns out, most of Thantir are from my universe. Or similar universes.

Dawnbreaker: The reason I’m hesitant to head straight back to home, to the Alsyrian Sea is because I know all these guys. And a lot of them are the same species as me.

Dawnbreaker: You’ve known for years that I always felt unwanted and unwelcome because I’m not a Thastarii or a similar race. And some assholes keep on calling me a Beh’ena when I’m clearly not one.

Dawnbreaker: I feel like I should stay here.

Dawnbreaker: I mean, one of my brothers is still alive, somehow, and he’s the fucking Master Psion of the Thantir these days.

Dawnbreaker: This feels like home. I haven’t felt at home for a very long time. Sure, I’m an Alsyrian Decay Lord, sure, you lot helped me as a Decayling and gave me a new purpose, sure I rose up the ranks, but I have never fit in.

Dawnbreaker: I want to stay here, with the Thantir, with my old friends and my little brother.

Terrorbane: You want to leave?

Dawnbreaker: Yeah.

Terrorbane: You are trained in Corruption Purging. The Thantir work as purifiers.

Dawnbreaker: I spoke to Retvik, and he said that, once their new Decaylings are properly trained, he wants to get into Corruption Purging too.

Terrorbane: Who is Retvik?

Dawnbreaker: Flamebearer.

Terrorbane: I see.

Dawnbreaker: The Thantir are, like, perfectly positioned to be able to do Corruption Purging in both the Kinigian Wilderness and the Ventra Expanse.

Dawnbreaker: They are just working out the logistics.

Dawnbreaker: But I have experience. I can help them with that. You already have a fuckton of Corruption Purgers anyway, losing me wouldn’t be that bad.

Dawnbreaker: I just want to properly be happy. Here with the Thantir, I AM happy. I’ve been reunited with friends and family that I thought was long gone.

Dawnbreaker: Fuck, there’s five Skyavok-shaped beings here, one of them being my brother.

Terrorbane: So you want to leave the Alsyr to join the Thantir.

Dawnbreaker: In all honesty? Yes.

Dawnbreaker: Most of our Voidborn and Corruption problems have been dealt with anyway. I mean, the Thantir are the reason why the Goldblessed no longer exist!

Dawnbreaker: Also I want to be with my little brother. The whole reason why I’m out here is because I got thrown out of my universe while looking for Eksi.

Terrorbane: So you want to leave permanently. You know we don’t really let high ranking soldiers leave. Especially someone as powerful as you. It would be bad for morale.

Dawnbreaker: I know, I know. But I’m not a Thastarii, I don’t belong. I’ve never really belonged.

Terrorbane: Have you spoken to the Thantir leaders about joining them?

Dawnbreaker: Uh… Admittedly, no, I haven’t. But Retvik would let me join.

Dawnbreaker: He’s managed to convince other sects before. Kaytee, Loopblade-6, he used to be a member of the Phantai and now he works for the Thantir, mostly in ship maintenance. They’re so accepting too. They have two Time Drakes and a Life Goddess. Heck, one of the new Decaylings is a Newling Voidborn, who they are teaching how to not be an evil cuntag.

Dawnbreaker: They’re very accepting people. I’m certain they will accept me. They accepted my little brother, after all.

Terrorbane: I see.

Terrorbane: I will speak to the Black Storm. They will want to know what’s going on, and they will also want to speak to the Missing, as they now run the Thantir.

Dawnbreaker: I’m sure that’s fine.

Dawnbreaker: I just want to feel at home again. It’s so nice, being with friends and family again.

Terrorbane: I understand. However, you will need to return back to base at some point, to discuss your leaving the Alsyr with the Black Storm in person. They will want to hear everything you just told me before they make a decision.

Dawnbreaker: Ugh. Fine.

Dawnbreaker: My ship is still damaged though. I can’t come back immediately.

Terrorbane: That is acceptable. Please try and return as soon as possible, as soon as your ship is repaired. You need to be debriefed and checked over.

Dawnbreaker: Understood, boss…

Terrorbane: Good. Speak soon. Stay safe.

Dawnbreaker: Yeah, you too.

Dawnbreaker is now offline.
