Creatures of Dark

Everything down there glowed. But at this moment, something new glistened in the darkness. A strange glow that lured the other dark beings in.

The creatures edged around the glow, curious and confused, but also rather hungry. They had no concept of time, but knew that they needed to eat. The divine being in front of them though was no food. It was something, but not food. It was a special something. The divine being was glowing, but not the way that SHE glowed. A blue light that dazed, a foreign brightness that outshone the dark, dull, red photo-luminescent plates that ran down the creatures’ bodies.

Still curious, the creatures edged closer. This divinity was foreign, but it did not harm them. It remained still, watching them, judging them. It was curious as well.

The curiosity didn’t last. A blinding light blazed through the darkness, its existence only being outshone by the gargantuan being that followed. SHE had appeared. The Monstrous Mother, glowing in shades of both red and green, had made HER presence known. Many, many times the size of the creatures. Many times the size of the shimmering blue and silver entity.

A hideous roar thundered across the void, threatening the blue divinity. The roar pierced the heavens, causing space to collapse, creating little pinnacles of bright, white light. The Monstrous Mother threatened the blue divinity, showing HER strength. The creatures followed HER, roaring and gathering beneath HER protective, clawed limbs.

Yet the blue divinity was unmoved. All the noise did was shed light on what this being was, a being far different from the Mother and HER children.

As the Mother’s harsh words faded, the blue divinity began to move. It created its own sounds. Soft, calm sounds that the creatures did not understand. SHE understood though. And as it spoke, SHE began to calm down too, bringing HERself down to its level.

The creatures did not understand why. Was this… thing not a threat? They knew of the other Glowing Divines. Of the Amethyst Serpent that threatened them all. The THING that SHE protected them all from. Mother had always protected them, hidden them, from the Serpent that wished to feast on them. But this little… dragon was not a threat?

The Monstrous Mother approached the blue divinity, speaking gently. There was fear in HER voice. They understood what SHE was saying. They always did. SHE was their creator, their guardian, their defender. SHE cared about them. As SHE spoke, they could feel something within the Blue Drake. That feeling of caring, of defending, of wanting to help. The way SHE taught them to look after one another. It was as if the Blue Drake was beginning to understand them.

After a long talk, the glistening lights on the Blue Drake’s body began to fade. The divine beings both seemed to have come to an understanding. With a flap of its elegant wings, the Blue Drake soared upwards, out of the darkness and out of sight, taking its eerie blue glow with it.

Satisfied, the Monstrous Mother turned back to HER children. With out-stretched claws, she handed out food for HER younglings, filling their stomachs and their minds. The creatures in their glowing deep reds rallied around their caring Mother, before slipping back into the darkness to play with one another. As the children rushed off, the Monstrous Mother smiled to herself, whispering careful words.

“He understands. Here’s to the others understanding too…”
