“Hey, Seimeni, just wanted to let you know that I made it home, safe and sound.”
Arkadin re-read that sentence three times before hitting the Send button, then sighed loudly. Between spending time at the big party, the overexertion from teleporting home and the pile of work Arkadin needed to get through, he had a lot on his mind and didn’t want to do anything.
Something beeped and a message appeared on the screen.
“Good to hear, Arkadin! How was the trip? Did you enjoy the party?”
Arkadin hesitated, then started thinking of a reply. He didn’t type anything, not yet, because that implied he was right there and… hadn’t been thinking about Seimeni constantly. He wasn’t even sure if there was a romantic thing going on, he was just completely blown away by how much he enjoyed being with Seimeni and how much they had in common.
Suddenly, Arkadin paused, then tutted to himself.
Of course Seimeni knew he was right there. He had just sent her a message.
“The trip home was a bit rough but the party was alright! Next time I’d prefer something quieter though.”
After a few moments, another reply popped up.
“Fair enough! How you doing now you’re home?”
“I’m…” Arkadin started typing and quickly deleted what he wrote. “It’s all alright. Same as normal. Work and stuff, trying to take things easy.”
“That’s good! You sound like a hard-working deity! Maybe even too hard!”
“Yeah but I got stuff to do, sadly. Can’t bunk off all the time…”
Arkadin glanced at the pile of work he needed to do. Lots of notes, as well as things he needed to go out and deal with. Not just things like clearing up after meteor strikes, volcanos and massive forest fires, but also dealing with small races of beings that liked to threaten each other with wars and death.
At the same time though, Arkadin just wanted to sit there and type messages to Seimeni. He had a lot of things he wanted to talk about that he couldn’t really… discuss with anyone else. Part of him didn’t even want to bring these things up with Seimeni, because he didn’t want to drag her down or distract her with his own problems.
“You can and should take time off for yourself though. It’s good for you. You’re a god, not a slave. And from what you’ve told me about the other deities… yeesh.”
“You’re right, I should take more time off.”
“Exactly! You need to look after you! And I need to look after me. I’ve got work to do tomorrow though so I’m going to head to sleep. Talk to you later!”
The little green symbol next to Seimeni’s name faded to grey, meaning that she was no longer available to talk to. Arkadin could still send her messages but Seimeni wouldn’t see them until she returned. When she’d return, Arkadin had no idea. He might not hear from her for days.
Sighing, Arkadin turned his attention to a nearby clock to see what time it was. Afternoon. At least for the planet he was currently on. With another sigh, Arkadin got up for his chair and decided to go for a walk.
“Fuck it. I’m going to take today off…”
