Desire for Normality

“Galyn, ser, can we talk please?”

Galyn glanced down at the little Decayling. Kuta wasn’t particularly tall, so he was somewhat easy to miss.

“Is something bothering you?” Galyn asked.

“Yeah. I…” Kuta stuttered. “Can we talk in private?”

“Of course.”

Galyn picked Kuta up and sat him on a chair, before grabbing a chair for himself. Kuta seemed quite nervous, and held his arms close to his body.

“I… I…” Kuta’s words stuttered, unable to get himself going. “I… I do not want to be here any more.”

“May I ask why?” Galyn responded with a question of his own. “You seemed quite happy not too long ago.”

Kuta stared at the floor, swinging his legs back and forth. “Well… I am somewhat happy. But things are changing and… well… I realised that I do not wish to be here. I want… more…”

“More what?”

Kuta stuttered some more, lowering his voice. “I want to not be a god and live a normal life. At least for a while.”

“Again, may I ask why?” Galyn asked, not understanding what Kuta was saying. “You want to be a mortal?”

“No! No!” Kuta jumped. “I do not want to be mortal! I just want to live a normal, Rethan life, the one I was denied for all these years! I want to go to work and eat food and find someone to love me and maybe have some kids. Settle down and live a simple, good life for a bit.”

Galyn didn’t say anything at first. He looked Kuta up and down, then sighed. “Why did you not get to live a normal life?”

Kuta took a deep breath. “It is… complicated. But… well… I killed some vok by accident. Lost control of my powers. I ended up… locked away, because I was dangerous. At some point, I was killed and somehow resurrected inside Litvir, my brother. He locked me away in the darkness and never let me have a normal life. As punishment for what I did.”

“Hm… I can see why you would want to do that. If you are that desperate to leave, then I will let you go. But you will have to speak with everyone first. You need to talk to Litvir and Retvik, explain your reasoning as you did to me. I will also need you to speak to Kinisis and her kids, as they do not like beings like us inside their universe.”

Kuta’s eyes widened. “You… I… You are saying I can…”

“Yes. But you need permission from the others first. Your presence here will be sorely missed, but it is more important that you are happy and healthy. I-”

Galyn paused, then looked past Kuta, peering at the being that wanted to interrupt.

“Kinisis, is there a problem?”

The Allmaker smiled slightly. “A little. Our friend Kuta here wants to leave.”

Kuta sank in his chair. “Am I really that obvious?”

“I am a Life Goddess, secrets do not stay buried in my Life Oasis.”

“I…”

Kinisis raised her hand. “It’s fine, little one. I don’t have an issue with you leaving. I would however prefer if someone replaced you up here. I am bringing two of my Guardians up here to give you all some extra support. But I do want you to find someone to replace yourself.”

Kuta stood up from his seat, still a little intimidated and confused. “But I do not know anyone…”

“That’s fine. I have a list!” Kinisis continued to smile. “I’ll let you have a chance to check them all out, then, once you’ve picked someone, you can go and live your normal life.”

The little Decayling was shaking now and he wasn’t quite sure why.

“R-really?”

“Yes.”

“Really really?”

“Yes, silly!”

“However,” Galyn interrupted, “Before we do anything else, Kuta, you must speak to Retvik and Litvir. They will understand.”

“Yeah, I will…” Kuta allowed himself a small smile. “I’ll… go do that now, I think.”

Kinisis stepped to one side, letting Kuta pass, then pushed the door shut behind him.

“He’s sweet.”

Galyn nodded in agreement. “He is, which is why I allowed him to do this.”

Kinisis wandered over and started leaning on Galyn’s desk. She hummed to herself briefly, before turning her attention back to Galyn.

“You ever feel lonely, Galyn?” Kinisis asked.

“Occasionally.”

“Are you single?”

“That is none of your concern.”

Kinisis shrugged. “I’ll take that as a yes. Feel free to pop over if you change your mind.”

Galyn grunted, then returned to his work. “Thank you for the offer, but I am currently not interested in finding a mate.”

“Fair enough!” Kinisis’s amusement didn’t fade at all. “I’ll see ya round. Baii!”
