Ever since their heart problem, Gath had barely been working. They worked three days in the office at the Kentron, and one day in their home office. The other three days were spent at home, relaxing, or doing gentle exercises or going on walks, to keep themselves healthy and active. Today though was a day at home without work. That would have been fine, but Gath’s dearest partner Relkir was in the office, doing their new job as the General of the Legion of Advisors. Sure, Gath was so pleased that Relkir loved their duties, but Gath was feeling somewhat lonely currently.
Normally, Gath was fine on their own. But their job was what filled Gath’s life, up until they fell in love with Relkir. Currently, Gath was both a little bored and somewhat desperate to spend time with Relkir. Yes, Gath could have gone to the Kentron with Relkir, but firstly, the doctors had clearly stated that Gath needed to stay in a relaxed environment as much as possible, but secondly, that would have meant talking with everyone else at the Kentron. Gath did get on with most of the Below Twenty staff that worked there, and Lysar and Ritlir made for enjoyable conversations, but Gath wasn’t in the mood to talk to everyone.
So Gath needed something to do. Something constructive. Eventually, this led Gath down an online rabbit hole. They decided to start making wedding plans.
Rethan weddings weren’t the most complicated things around. Most of the time, if two Rethans wanted to get married, the wedding would be performed by one of the two Rethans’ leaders, ideally either a Rethan from the 222nd Legion (the Legion of Familial Affairs) or the General of one of the Legions that one of the two poten-partners belonged to. Always someone who was higher ranked than the happy couple. In Gath’s case though, only two people could actually marry Gath and Relkir, and one of them was Relkir’s sibling, which would have made everything awkward. That left Gath with one single option: the Master of Generals was the only person who could help Gath and Relkir tie the knot.
There was one small problem. The Master of Generals didn’t really like Relkir or Gath. Genreal Vaksavar was of a Bloodline Tradition, and Relkir, who was also of a Bloodline Tradition, had successfully argued that the Bloodline Traditions should end. That was what stopped Relkir from having a poten-partner in the first place, and Gath had pissed Vaksavar off further by not just standing by Relkir’s side, but also having arguments with Vaksavar in the past, mostly because Vaksavar had always acted very rudely to other high-ranking Generals and Gath had made it quite clear on several occasions that Vaksavar was being a bastard.
Still, it was probably fine. Gath had the High General on their side. Sure, Rethais couldn’t marry them, but Rethais had always protected and sheltered their little sibling. Gath would just have to put on a nice voice when speaking to Vaksavar.
But there were other things Gath could think about in the mean time. Like all the people Gath wanted to invite. Rethan weddings weren’t that big, but Gath was a famous General, and Relkir was pretty important as well-known too. There would be pressure to have a large wedding, but Gath would not allow that. Not just because they were famous, but also because Gath didn’t want to have tons of security wandering around. At the same time though, since they were both Generals, it was expected for them to invite as many people from their Legions as possible. They would have to, at a minimum, invite all their captains. The good news though was that the 1000th Legion wasn’t that large, and the 99th Legion only had five captains, most of whom were single.
The more Gath thought about things though, the more they realised that they had to have a private ceremony. Yes, Gath and Relkir were famous, but Gath was ill and Relkir was a little shy. A proper wedding would have been a security nightmare. And it wouldn’t have been fun. It would be horrible in a myriad of ways. A private wedding though, that was easier to control. They could just announce that they were true partners at a later date after the wedding, in front of the press or something. And this meant that Gath not only didn’t have to invite a huge number of people, but they could invite some stranger fellows as well. Gath knew that Relkir had a few non-Rethan friends that they wanted to invite, and their almost-adopted kid Litvir may have had a few friends to invite too.
Gath glanced at their computer screen, then decided to think about something else. With a private wedding, Gath could pick a smaller location. Rethan marriages were always traditionally done at midday, near a large body of water. The water was important. A wedding involved two promises and a blood oath, a small cut along each index finger, made with a sharp piece of armour taken from each other’s plating. The cuts were marked on a sheet of water-proof paper and rolled into a scroll, and tradition stated that the married couple then had to jump into a body of water, which would cause their blood to mingle, then wash both the blood and their past grievances away.
With a private wedding, Gath could now pick somewhere smaller and quieter. And perhaps somewhere a tad more exotic. Or even a lot more exotic. Flights to neutral worlds were often very cheap, and there was one place Gath had always wanted to visit again, somewhere they had gone as a kid. While not as beautiful and colourful as Allshimmer and its amazing coloured glass beaches, Glimmerling was a place on Thresisa, where Gath had grown up, was rather similar, except the sand of the Glimmerling beaches were made from a strange, yellow quartz.
Gath started doing some more research. Rather quickly, they found a page that told them everything they needed. And, best of all, there was a spot that was absolutely perfect for a wedding.
A smile grew across Gath’s face. They started writing a bunch of things down and started making plans. As far as Gath was concerned, they and Relkir were going to have the best wedding ever…
