“What were you doing in theeeeere?” Yisini hissed as she sat on a massive, cushioned, golden throne, floating pointlessly on the edge of space.
Kairos glanced behind him, into the darkness of the Void Spaces, the domain of their father, Kenon. The Void Spaces weren’t a true void, they were just particularly dark places where stars were few and far between and dark matter stopped the spreading of visible light. They technically made up the edge of the universe, but due to its round, irregular shape, the Void Spaces just appeared as patchy black spots.
“In there?”
“Yes, what were you doing in the Void Spaces, Kairos?” Yisini hissed again.
Kairos shrugged. “I had a chat with Kenon. Then I bumped into Epani and had a nice chat with her…” The Whenvern paused, then eyed Yisini suspiciously. “What are you doing out here on that stupid flying chair of yours?”
Yisini didn’t like Kairos’s change of tone. “It’s none of your business!”
“Yet you just asked me what I was doing!” Kairos tutted. “You’ve been sitting here, waiting for us to appear and then jumping on us! I assume you immediately asked Epani-”
“I haven’t seen Epani yet.”
“Whatever. You’re getting on our nerves, Yisini. As if the whole universe revolves around you.”
“The universe does revolve around me, you bastard!” the Allbirther screeched. “Without me, we wouldn’t have-”
“The universe revolves around Kinisis!” Kairos snapped back. “We are the four cogs, yes. But frankly sister, the way you have been acting lately, I feel like you don’t… deserve your power!”
Yisini snarled, leaving her throne and floating towards Kairos. “You… dare…”
“I do dare, little sister. You may be the creator of life, but I am the creator of time. But it doesn’t take a deity to realise that you are fucking up lately, acting in ways unfitting of the Allbirther.”
Yisini hesitated, then sat back down. “You don’t get it. I just want to talk to my little brother. Yet no one will allow me to get close to him.”
“We don’t even know where he’s hiding.”
“Don’t care. I want to talk to him. And neither of you are helping me.”
Kairos flicked his winged claw. “Have you considered that Arkadin doesn’t want to talk to you? At all?”
The Allmaker crossed her arms, tutting. “He should want to talk to me. The only way we can get eternal life, something he wants as well, is if we work together.”
The Whenvern though closed his eyes, sighing. “You really don’t get it, do you? Like, at all? All you do is berate and torture and try to hurt Arkadin, then you want him to help you? Well of course he’s not going to help you, because he knows you’ll just try to hurt him again.”
“BUT YOU HURT HIM TOO!” Yisini suddenly shouted. “NOT TOO LONG AGO EITHER!”
“Yeah but I apologised…”
“So?”
Kairos shook his head, still sighing. “You’re like a broken record, little sister. Never learning. Doing the same things over and over and not realising where you went wrong. Your successes are due to dumb luck. If you want Arkadin to come to you, then you need to give him a good, honest, genuine reason to want to. As it stands now, he’s sick and tired of you and just wants to be left alone. I can’t help you with that.”
“Fine!” Yisini hissed. “Bugger off then! I’ll do everything myself!”
“If you say so…” Kairos grunted as he flew off. “Just don’t come crying back to us again…”
