“Retvik, a word, please?”
So far, Retvik had been in a good mood. Alongside his boss Galyn, he had located the mysterious entity that had caused worry and fear for a group of Decay Lords. They were now on their way to the mystery being’s location and their ship was quite happily zooming by on autopilot. But the way Galyn grabbed Retvik’s attention somehow immediately set the Decayling on edge.
“Of course, Galyn. What can I do for you?”
“I require some information, information that I believe you can give me. Why do you think Life Goddess Kinisis would be interested in this mysterious entity?”
“Pardon?” Retvik blinked, confused by Galyn’s question.
“Why is Kinisis interested in this being?”
Retvik blinked some more. “Is that… where we are going? To see Kinisis?”
“Yes,” Galyn nodded. “We are going to see Kinisis. The accursed Life Goddess that created this Periuniversal sector. She was the Life Goddess of your universe, was she not?”
“Well…” Retvik hesitated. “Yes, you are correct in thinking that… but… I do not know how to answer your question. I did not even know that we were going to see Kinisis!”
Galyn tutted. “You do not recognise the frequencies of your own former Life Goddess?”
“No, not at all.”
Galyn stared at Retvik briefly, then tutted some more, uttering an apology. “I forget that you were a deity for such a brief moment of time. But surely you must have had some connection with Life Goddess Kinisis? Why would she bestow you with godhood otherwise?”
“Because I was friendly with her son…” Retvik frowned. “She cared little about me personally. Heck, if I am honest, I do not think she even really recognised my existence outside of my being friendly with Arkay.”
“You were given godhood because you were friends with Arkadin?”
“No. I… I do not know why I was given godhood. I just… woke up as a god, really. No real effort on my part. It all happened in a blink the eye.”
Galyn grunted some more, only partially satisfied with Retvik’s response. Retvik however had questions of his own.
“This will not be a conflict of interest or anything, will it?”
“What?” Galyn frowned. “No, of course not. Not unless you have specific issues with Kinisis or her Divine Guardians.”
“One of them is my half-brother.”
“Are you friendly with your half-brother?”
Retvik hesitated. “I… I guess? He does not remember me though.”
Galyn shook his head. “You are worrying. You do not need to worry. As long as none of Kinisis’s Divine Guardians will go into a fury upon seeing you, then there is no problem. We will go in, talk to Kinisis about the entity, gather information then go from there. Understood?”
“No mess or anything?”
“No. We go in, we get out. The less time we spend with Life Goddesses, the better.”
The Decayling blinked. “You… seem to not like…”
“I do not like Life Goddesses, no. And from what I know about Kinisis, not having met her in person, she seems manipulative. So we must be cautious, especially if she intends to work with this entity.”
“So…” Retvik sighed. “We are… just gathering data?”
“Yes,” Galyn nodded. “Gathering data. And being careful. Because the entity might be with Kinisis when we arrive…”
