Sad Meal

“Hey, Ret, dear, you okay?”

Retvik tutted and sighed as he pushed food across his plate. He was hungry and not hungry at the same time, but he didn’t want to waste what he had. What Retvik really wanted to do was eat something very sweet, but he needed a proper meal first.

“Retvik?”

Retvik looked up from his plate, then sighed again.

“Hello, Phovos. I apologise, I was distracted.”

“It’s okay,” Phovos had a small smile on her face. She was also wearing casual gear. A t-shirt and a pair of trousers. “You have been glum. I just want to know if you’re alright and if you want to talk.”

Retvik looked Phovos up and down. “You seem very happy.”

“I do? I don’t feel very happy. I’m still going over what we went through. The fact that I brutally murdered a Void Lord with my teeth has been keeping me afloat emotionally. But it’s only a brief feeling, and the rest of my emotions are all over the place.”

“Did you speak to the boss to get a scan done?” Retvik asked. “Have you made sure that you are clean?”

“Yeah I got multiple scans done. Did the first one, then immediately asked Galyn to do it again.”

“You do not want to risk anything.”

Phovos nodded. “I also asked Litvir about it, and he said he had experienced something similar in the past.”

Retvik snorted. “Hmph, I remember that. Not so much a voidborn leftover, more his own sibling rebuilding himself inside Litvir’s internal organs.”

“What?” Phovos blinked in confusion.

“Technically Litvir gave birth to his own sibling.”

“What? Also, Litvir has a brother? That’s… that’s really fucked up. What happened to him?”

Retvik grunted, giving up on his food. “His name is Kuta. Their past is… a huge mess, but they forgave each other. However, Kuta wanted to go and live a normal life, so he chose Eksi to replace him. I believe he is now dating Trismit, but I have not spoken to him in ages.”

“Who is Trismit?” Phovos had a lot of questions, but she didn’t want to ask too many and potentially piss Retvik off.

“Uh… It is a long story. Not one I wish to recall.”

Phovos shrugged, then sat down next to Retvik. “Fair enough. You’ve had a pretty insane life.”

“So have you.”

“Yeah but I don’t consider every one of my rebirths all in one go. As far as I’m concerned, I’m a new person every time I die and am reborn.”

Retvik gave Phovos an odd look. “You do not think that this current life of yours is insane?”

“Well… yeah, you have a point…” Phovos fell silent. She stared blankly ahead of her, before turning back to Retvik. “Are you going to eat that?”

“Are you hungry, Phovos?”

“Yes, really hungry.”

“Have you been skipping meals?”

“Yeah. I can’t face breakfast these days.”

Retvik pushed his plate towards Phovos. “You can have this then. I was only going to throw it away.”

Phovos bowed slightly. “Thanks, dear.”

“No problem, my angel.”
