Tale: The Soul Rupture of Kinigi

Note: This event may or may not have happened yet.

The Deitics are soulless beings. They have no soul. No morality. That’s why they cling on to us mortals, because they are jealous of us, they want to know what it feels like to be mortal and to understand life as we do. They would trick us, lie to us and try and steal our souls, tempting us with promises of heaven. But many of us were not fooled and went to Kinigi, where our souls were cleansed and reborn into new lives.

Kinigi is the river. It runs eternally. Protected by beasts while the waters do their magical work. The monsters kept the Deitics at bay as they continued their trickery even past our deaths. But they eventually grew weary.

Then one day, they went to the root, where all souls go, a place they normally fear to tread. They ventured to the foot of the river and destroyed it, severing the ties of life and death. Mortality no longer existed. Death had been all but forgotten. We called this day the Soul Rupture of Kinigi. Our souls were no longer part of the river, no longer able to be cleansed and renwed.

The Deitics went to their new immortal friends and asked for them to follow the Deitics in their immortal ways, but the young undying refused. We wanted to discover immortality on our own, not have it thrust upon us by undesirable would-be gods.

So we continued to live our lives, unsure what to do next. No new children were born. No new lives were created. Some disappeared but most remained. Hunger, thirst, tiredness still existed but with no consequence. We quickly learned of the upsides and downsides of a never-ending life. The Deitics moved in, living alongside us, rather than hiding away. There was peace, but not for long.

Those who had disappeared returned after a month. But they were no longer themselves. The monsters that had once protected Kinigi woke up within them. Death was not happy and wished to bring mortality back into our lives. So the Veth were born, tearing apart anything in their wake, not stopping until every Deitic responsible for the world’s undeath was destroyed.

Peace fled the universe, leaving war in its wake. The young undying were torn between their beliefs, whether they should defend those who gave them immortality, assist the beasts of Kinigi in restoring true order, or simply standing to one side and letting them fight for themselves. Despite their immortality, they could still feel pain, their bodies could still be torn apart, crushed, burned and ruined, only for them to rise from the grave a few days later, their bodies slowly healing. Such suffering left a heavy toll on our minds and memories, driving us insane and splitting us further.

Before long, we were split in half. You either wanted death or did not. The universe was in chaos, as beings of all races, Deitic, Vethic, Thropic, Panvok, Denosavric and more, tore at each others’ necks, incapable of finding a victor.

No one knows if this madness will end.
