Space Between Universes 13

Seimeni had no idea whether she was doing the right thing or not. She knew what she was doing, but she didn’t know if it was helping their current situation. Or doing anything at all, really.

Well, she was doing something. She was ramming a ship through a mass of corruption. Normally such an act would result in said ship getting stuck in said mass of corruption, but because she had stuck a lump of Antifthoric material on the nose of the vessel, it was… just passing straight through. Or was it burning holes in the corruption? Again, Seimeni wasn’t sure.

Really though, Seimeni was just a distraction. Inside the holes she had made in that corrupted mass, a tiny little Decayling was running around, trying to find the rest of the ship’s crew. Being a Decayling, he couldn’t teleport very far, nor was he that strong. That was why Seimeni was distracting.

Suddenly, something teleported in behind Seimeni. She couldn’t see what it was, she was too busy piloting the ship. But whatever it was, it had come in and left something behind before teleporting off again.

“Seimeni?”

Seimeni recognised that voice. She caught a glimpse behind her, seeing a strange yet familiar slimy creature.

“Myyxa! You’re safe!”

“This one is safe. What is that little one doing?”

“Saving you all, apparently!”

Another voice shouted from deeper within the ship. A shout that came from the medical bay.

“MYYXA, NEED YOU HERE!”

Myyxa blinked, then slithered down the main corridor. The voice’s owner was nowhere to be found, but lying on a bed was Saahro, the young Murdragon, who seemed to have broken most of the bones in his wings. Saahro, realising Myyxa was present, spluttered back to life, glanced at the slimy Decay-Lord, then passed out again.

Another little teleport and a pair of new beings found themselves standing behind Seimeni, wiping bits of dead, cold soot off their bony bodies.

“Wow, that little prick has guts!” Adis almost laughed. “Fucking little idiot saved us!” Adis suddenly realised what Seimeni was doing. “Uh, why the hell are we flying through that thing?”

“Distractions, clearly!” Ostos exclaimed. “Seimeni, do you need us in the gunner rooms?”

Seimeni glanced behind her again. “I… I don’t know… We might… accidentally shoot someone we didn’t mean to…”

The conversation was interrupted by the ugly, pained scream of Thaed being dropped into the middle of the hallway, with part of his tail missing and a large slice taken out from his upper left shoulder. Ostos immediately rushed over to help Thaed up and take him down to the medical bay.

“So…” Adis looked a tad more worried now. “Has he managed… to find everyone?”

“I don’t know! I’m just waiting for Arkay to signal when I should punch out of here!” Seimeni gasped, feeling far too anxious for her liking.

“This was all Arkay’s plan?” Adis blinked. “Well, we’re probably fucked then.”

“You’re back onboard this vessel though!” Seimeni snapped. “You all are! Apart from… Vikalos…”

Seimeni slowed the ship down as it passed through the Corruption one last time. The ship stopped a safe distance away, close enough to teleport to but far away enough that the tendrils couldn’t reach t them. The mass though was mostly calm and still, as if something inside was… keeping it preoccupied.

“It’s… quiet…” Adis whispered. “Almost… too quiet… Maybe we should… leave while we have the chance…”

“No!” Seimeni hissed. “Just… give them a chance…”
