A Weird Knock on the Door

Psiksi wasn’t sure what to say as the door opened, revealing the purple-scarfed Skyan behind it. A hundred different phrases raced through his head, to the point that he didn’t actually know what he said.

“I’m sorry.”

Kayess-En blinked, staring at the cute little yellow Skyan at the door. Kayess-En, Kass for short, used to be a famous warrior, representing the Skyavok in the great Battle Arenas of Palaestra. He was considered one of the most attractive Skyans around, up until, well, the Arenas were no more. As soon as everything collapsed, Kass found himself working full time, helping other Skyavok reconnect with their lost family members and building temporary shelters for those who had lost their homes.

Weirdly though, just yesterday, he’d found his services were no longer needed. He’d set out that morning to build ten new shelters, but when he arrived at the work site, there was an entire block of flats, just sitting there and ready to use. So, instead, Kass had decided to see what else needed doing, only to find there was… nothing that needed doing.

And now, after a day of being able to actually rest for once, he’d opened the front door to… his missing partner.

“You’re alive!”

“Yeah. You’re alive too.”

Kass awkwardly placed his arms on Psiksi’s shoulders, checking to see if he was real. “How… How are you here? You were on the big list of powerful beings that disappeared! I mean, I was too, but I just… woke up at home!”

“Well… to be blunt, I don’t really know. I just… well…” Psiksi hesitated. “Did you know that Vice General Rethais Rethianos has an adopted kid called Trismit, who has the ability to teleport?”

“I, uh, didn’t, but…” Kass blinked some more, then shrugged. “Crazier stuff has happened. Much crazier stuff. Half the universe blew up…”

“More like 90% of it…” Psiksi frowned. “I’m sorry I didn’t come back sooner. I got tied up with… well, a ton of shit. The bad news is that most of the universe is dead. The good news is that, well…” Psiksi stopped. “Can I come inside, before I talk?”

“Of course!” Kass was almost as dazed as Psiksi was. He led his dear friend inside, closing the door behind him and sitting Psiksi down on the tiny two-seater sofa. Kass’s current home was very barren compared to what he was used to, but he didn’t mind. He was normally hardly here.

Psiksi took a moment to settle down. He squirmed in his seat, before finally talking. “Do you remember what happened?”

“Not… really. I just remember blinding white lights, some flashes of gold and then… waking up back at home. And then immediately having to evacuate because the Ksithans and Temthans got all pissy at each other.”

“Yeah, that’s what most people say. I just… got completely caught up in this whirlwind of problems. Every time I thought that I needed to get out and find you, something would drag me away. Especially since the Void Lord is still calling the shots for pretty much everyone. But I’m here now and, well…” Psiksi paused. “I have some good news, at least. I’ve passed on all the old Dessaron stuff I was tied up with, and now I’m, well, free to be with you.”

“Really?” Kass couldn’t help but express disbelief. “You are… actually… free to be with me?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Really really?”

“Yeah.”

Kass slid down onto the sofa, squishing up next to Psiksi. “Wow. That is… awesome. Not only are you alive, but you want to spend your time with me.”

Psiksi smiled awkwardly. “Yeah. But… I have… some more news. News that you have to promise you’re not going to tell anyone about.”

“You’re not pregnant are you?”

“What?” Psiksi recoiled in shock. “No! The secret news is that the Void Lord’s gonna start making changes and stop with his retarded making us work for everything.”

“Is that why there was a block of flats where I was supposed to be building temporary shelters yesterday morning?”

“Probably…”

Kass shrugged, then wrapped his arms around Psiksi. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep your secret news safe. On one condition.”

“What?” Psiksi blinked.

“You come to bed and make sweet love to me.”

Psiksi hesitated, then grinned, gently nuzzling Kass’s cheek. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too, Psiksi…”
