Adventures in the Space Between Universes
Arkay Kairos sifted through the burning rubble, looking for that little glimmer of death hiding beneath it all. The universe had been unreasonably calm for the last few hours and Kairos knew that the reason was because the Thantophor was sulking again. “Go away…” a muffled voice hissed from beneath a pile of burning planks. “No.” … Read more
“WHY IS EVERYTHING ON FIRE?” Teekay screeched as he rushed up to the small house. “WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?” The angry, slightly panicked Skyavok immediately turned to the solemn Rethan who was just standing there, watching it all happen. “WHAT DID YOU DO? DID YOU TRY AND COOK SOMETHING?” Elkay tutted. “No. I did not … Read more
It was business as usual in the central political hub of Thre-Vretania, but for King Ver and his guards, something felt off. Ver was here to meet with the leader of the Rethavok, a race the Vrekans had been allied with for quite a long time. At least for Vrekan standards. He didn’t expect parades … Read more
“Are you alright, Teekay?” Arkadin asked as he sat on the bed next to the young Skyavok. “Define “alright”, because that could mean a lot of different things right now…” Teekay sighed. Arkadin rolled his eyes. “I’ll take that as a “no, I’m not alright” from you. Are you pissed off because Elkay’s here and … Read more
“Wow…” A Skyan, a Rethan and a Thraki sat on the awkwardly small sofa, waiting for Arkadin to finish what he was doing. The three of them had been sitting there for at least an hour, occasionally glancing at each other but mostly just staring at the floor. No one had said a word, not … Read more
Elkay woke up covered in sweat and slime and had no idea why. But clearly he had also done something to wake up Teekay, as the Skyan was standing in the doorway, towels in hand. “Bad dream?” “Somewhat, yes.” Teekay glanced at Elkay, then looked away. Elkay peeled himself off the bed and sighed, feeling … Read more
The bedroom was small but tidy. A cupboard for belongings, a small chair and table and a comfy bed with far too many blankets and pillows on it. The floor was cold but a rug along the bed stopped Elkay’s feet from getting too cold. There was a window but it was hidden behind blinds … Read more
“Hey, wake up.” Elkay slowly opened his eyes. For the first time in ages, he wasn’t in pain. He felt uncomfortable, but he was otherwise alive. The voice that had spoken to him came from his left, so that was the direction Elkay looked in. “You’re not having a good week, are you?” the yellow … Read more
Dear Retvik, Right now, I hurt all over. To the point that I cannot remember your contact details. Or anyone’s contact details really. … This note will probably never find you. The same way I will probably never be found. What has happened to me over the last week has been soul-destroying. I am no … Read more
There were bodies everywhere. Bloody, tattered, beaten bodies. Young bodies and old bodies. About twenty in total. And standing in the middle of them was a hideous monster, weeping in realisation at what it had done. Elkay had only wanted help. As he’d climbed the mountain, the pain had trickled back into his system, his … Read more
After what had felt like an eternity of trudging through marshlands and mud, Elkay finally found a hint of civilization. The small logging village of Thredendra may have been in Rethan territory but its population was a strange mixture of Rethans, Skyans and Vrekans, all working together on providing renewable wood products for the other … Read more
“Been a while since we met up for tea…” “Yeah…” Kohra sat down at the table where Arkadin was sitting. The Thantophor was playing around with a bunch of paints, trying to decide what colour to put on his nails. “I wonder why that is?” “Well…” Kohra answered awkwardly. “We were kinda being your prison … Read more
Elkay stared at the corpse in front of him. The freshly killed body of a young alogan was sitting there, its guts half-eaten and hanging out, subtly taunting him. Elkay wasn’t sure why he felt the way he did. It wasn’t the act of killing the alogan that was disturbing Elkay, it was the fact … Read more
The pyrex canister had been sealed up and was now ready for transport. The flight staff, two pilots, a medic and two nurses, stood by as they watched a crew of ten Ksithans haul the canister into the back of the nosomic shuttle. “That is… most unusual…” Darik, the younger of the two pilots, muttered … Read more
The screams echoed through the building as medics raced through, trying to seek its source. What had once been pristine white hallways were now caked with something that smelled like blood but had the consistency of slime and jelly. None of them had any idea whether it was toxic or not, so hazardous material suits … Read more
