Friend and Co-Worker Chat

“Miisa! Miisa! Hi! Hi hi hi!”

Litvir was their normal happy, bouncy self as they left the lift from the 11th Legion basement offices, but as they spotted a familiar friend making their way through the main entrance hall of the Kentron, Litvir’s bounciness got even worse. They hopped like a rabbit up to their forever-friend, the only friend Litvir had managed to make in their brief time at school, and if it wasn’t for the fact that Litvir wasn’t repeatedly saying Miisa’s name, they probably would have dropped all their stuff in surprise.

“Hi, Litvir!” Miisa was smiling today. That was good. It meant Litvir knew Miisa was happy. The last time Litvir had seen Miisa at the Kentron, they had been rather miserable, as they had failed a job interview. “How are you?”

Litvir grinned some more, then glanced at their wristband. “I am happy! Happy to see you and that you are happy! I also have an hour before I go do my patrols. Can we talk? I like talking! Can we get cookies too?”

Miisa eyed Litvir somewhat, suggesting that they calm down a little. While Litvir didn’t get the social cue, some accidental mind-reading informed Litvir that they were being over the top.

“Sorry. Am excited. Seeing you is always good. And I can tell you all the good stuff! Also, what are you holding?”

Miisa eyed Litvir some more, then sighed. “Let us go to that nice cafe and get some cookies and we can talk.”

“Alright!”

Litvir took everything out of Miisa’s hands, then charged off back to the lift. The main Twenty Below cafe was on the fifth floor and overlooked most of the city, but weirdly, most older Rethans preferred the second Below Twenty cafe, which was opposite the Kentron. Litvir didn’t get why, they loved heights and looking at things.

As soon as they arrived, Litvir sat Miisa and their stuff down in the corner, teleported into the kitchen, grabbed a plate of cookies and two glasses of water and immediately placed them in front of Miisa. The Service Legion staff would have been annoyed, but the two waitresses always found Litvir’s antics adorable. Plus, they were doing their work for them, so they didn’t mind too much.

“So! How are you?” Litvir asked.

Miisa smiled a little. “I am good. Very good. I have a job now.”

Litvir suddenly looked at the stuff they had been carrying. It was three sets of black armour, all wrapped up in cling film for protection. Three sets of Below Twenty armour.

“YOU GOT A JOB? YOU ARE WORKING HERE NOW? WHAT JOB? CAN WE COME TO WORK TOGETHER? CAN WE-”

Miisa raised their hands. Litvir was getting very excited.

“General Ritlir gave me a job. I now work in the Olanet Trend Tracking Department. I am training to do the job, and it will be my duty to find any potentially dangerous, propaganda-based or dis-informational trends that appear on social media websites, so they can be reported to higher ups for inspection. Since I use almost all popular social media sites, am good at spotting patterns, emerging influences and upcoming and rising influencers and have a lot of knowledge on Temthan and Skyan sites too, General Ritlir says I will be useful. I start officially tomorrow.”

Litvir clapped their hands together with glee. “I am so happy for you! This is what you wanted! Kinda!”

“It is not exactly what I wanted, but it is a stepping stone and a governmental job which I did want to get into. You seem very excited. More excited than I am.”

“There is lots of good stuff going on, that is why!” Litvir beamed. “You are happy because you got a job, dada Relkir is happy because their wedding plans are going well, mama Gath is happy because their heart test things came back good, old mama Elkay is happy because his library is now fully open and I am happy because everyone else is happy and it is my first birthday soon!”

“Oh!” Miisa exclaimed. “Your birthday? Wait… your… first birthday?”

“Yes! I will be a year old on the 26th of the 11th!”

“Literally a year old?”

“Yes!” Litvir’s perkiness faded briefly. “Oh. I… I just realised… that… that is weird…”

“It is a little… It is also four days before the Day of the Return of the Light… the day… the day you were introduced to us all as a deity…” Miisa blinked. “Wow, you… you really are young.”

“I am, yes. But I am getting older now. And I will hopefully be going to a beach for my birthday! It will be nice!” Litvir suddenly paused again. “Are you coming to the wedding? I think you said yes, right?”

Miisas nodded. “I am excited for it. General Ritlir said I can go no problem. Apparently General Ritlir is also going to the wedding. They helped me arrange flights and a hotel to stay at. How are you getting there?”

Litvir shrugged. “I… I can fly through space… but also mama Gath said I can stay with their very nice parents if I want to. I have not really met them yet but dada Relkir says they are amazing so I believe them. But I can also just sort of travel super fast across the universe so it is not too bad.”

“I see… what are you doing for your birthday anyway?” Miisa asked.

“Mama and dada are going to take me to a very pretty beach in Glimmerling and we will look at the stars and eat cake and noodles.”

Miisa smiled. “That sounds very nice. I will not be heading to Thresisa until the 29th though and you will already be there.”

“Oh…” Litvir frowned. “Well… Do you… do you want to do something together?”

“I would like to, yes. I was wondering if you wanted to come to my apartment on the 24th and watch some movies or something? I will order some cake too.”

“That… that sounds fun! I would like that, yes! I will have to ask Kyr Kairos for the day off but I think it will be fine!” Litvir’s smile returned. “But for now, I want cookies.”

Miisa nodded in agreement. “Cookies are good. And we can do this more often, now that we both work here!”

“Definitely!”
