Mimicky Bastards 2

Unender: Hello, Arkay, are you around?

Deathbringer is now online.

Deathbringer: Oh, heya Elkay! What’s up?

Unender: Nothing much. I enjoyed our talk the other, uh, day and wanted to talk again.

Deathbringer: Is something wrong?

Unender: No, no. It is just that time of, uh, day.

Unender: I am still not used to the lack of a true day and night cycle. We have 20 hour days, which we split into 5 hour shifts. Litvir does a very good job arranging shifts so that those who are couples have free time together, but right now, I am supposed to be asleep and cannot, despite having my wonderful husband snoring next to me.

Deathbringer: Teekay’s not keeping you awake, is he?

Unender: Not at all. I just am not that tired right now. I find I do not need to sleep much at all. Teekay on the other hand falls asleep straight away, so I am left with an hour or two with nothing to do, just lying in bed.

Deathbringer: There are definitely things you can do in bed.

Unender: Things I have already done. So I might as well message a friend who I do not get to see.

Deathbringer: Ah. Fair enough.

Deathbringer: I suppose we are friends.

Unender: Yes, just not as close as I would like. We are two of a kind, we ought to remain close. And I do wish to keep you company more, as we do go through similar problems.

Deathbringer: Did something else happen to you?

Unender: Apart from getting my stupidly long tail caught in a closing door? No. Had to adjust the sensors on the automatic sliding doors at the entrance of the main offices because that was the third time this week.

Deathbringer: Have you tried making the end of your tail ethereal?

Unender: I do struggle with that sort of thing. No one here can make themselves ethereal, so I cannot mimic them. I have learned to make my skin harder and crystalline, based on coating my skin in ice then making the ice super hard, but I cannot work out how to turn into a ghost.

Deathbringer: I suppose yeah, that makes sense. You haven’t been a mimic for that long, you haven’t developed generic god-like abilities. The same thing applies to Kuta, sure, they’re 100 years old and they are being somewhat weakened by just being in this universe, but they haven’t existed long enough to completely refine all their powers outside of their telepathy and shadowjumping.

Deathbringer: But also I wonder if my mortal-turned-immortal friends would get new powers if they became Decaylings. You all did when you became Decaylings, despite having the same powers as Divine Guardians.

Unender: That is very true. Sure, Akah kept his ice powers, Tenuk kept his shapeshifting, but Teekay’s electricity powers are new, as are Tahvra’s poison abilities.

Unender: I am glad that you mentioned Divine Guardians though.

Deathbringer: How comes?

Unender: I was having a conversation with Tenuk, Teekay and Tahvra earlier, and Teekay asked what happened to the other Divine Guardians. Kinisis had twelve of us bent to her will. But she split us into two teams, half of us defending the bottom of the universe, half of us defending the top of the universe. Tenuk and Phovos were with Retvik on a mission, Teekay and I were with Litvir and Eksi at the Life Oasis, but the other six never left their posts at the entrance.

Unender: Tenuk assumed they were killed by Epani, but Tahvra said that, when Kal saved him and Akah, Kal suggested that they probably fell into the universe and were rewritten, and also most likely made mortal.

Deathbringer: OH!

Deathbringer: They’re still alive!

Unender: They are? You know them?

Deathbringer: Um… well… they… kinda belong to Sini and Epani.

Deathbringer: When we were rebuilding the universe, Kairos found the six of them trapped inside some sort of… thing… probably what used to be the entrance thingy you mentioned. Epani wanted to kill them because they were connected to Kinisis, same way they had me destroy everything else connected to Kinisis when we were rebuilding, but Sini suggested that they be made into immortal guards.

Deathbringer: Unfortunately, the thing they are guarding are a physical manifestation of the chains that keep me bound to this universe. So I’ve never, like, properly met them or even spoken to them or anything.

Unender: They are alive though?

Deathbringer: Definitely. Sini told me she sleeps with them sometimes.

Deathbringer: Willingly. She doesn’t do sexual abuse any more, she learned that was wrong in the last universe.

Unender: Is Yisini really different?

Deathbringer: I think so, yes. Normally I’m wrong about people being able to realize they were evil and changing themselves, but Sini has definitely changed. Heck, if she met you, she’d probably apologize.

Unender: I would not accept that apology. She literally cut my wings off.

Unender: Sure, I worked out, via my mimic powers, to give myself wings again, but still.

Deathbringer: I don’t blame you in the slightest.

Unender: Do you forgive Yisini for what she has done to you?

Deathbringer: Um…

Deathbringer: I’m… not sure, really.

Deathbringer: I can forgive her for some things. Like, apparently, she attacked me and my friends back in January, but I forgive her for that, because she was ever so slightly corrupted. But what she did to you? And what I think she did to me at the same time she did awful things to you? I can’t forgive her for that.

Deathbringer: That being said, I think Sini has actually been looking after the other twelve Divine Guardians.

Unender: Can you speak to them?

Deathbringer: Not directly. I’m not allowed near the fortress where they reside. I’ve been avoiding Epani currently and keeping out of her way, but going near that place would 100% draw Epani’s ire and cause her to get angry at me.

Deathbringer: I could speak to Sini though? She might at the very least be willing to tell me if they’re healthy or not. Heck, they might think that you six are dead and might be happy to know that you’re not. Assuming they remember you.

Unender: Would their memories be erased? Kuta remembers things.

Deathbringer: Kuta didn’t remember everything. They just had nightmares and memories which they weren’t certain were real until we ran into each other. And even then, Kuta only really remembers being a Decayling, their memories of being mortal are very blurry.

Deathbringer: Thassalin is in a slightly better position, but he’s an ancient Time Drake, he’s older than I am, and I’m fucking ancient.

Unender: Oh.

Unender: That is lame. And unfortunate.

Unender: How are your mortal friends, by the way?

Deathbringer: Up and down. Nyssi’s great as always, Tenuk’s happy apart from the fact that he’s trying to work out how to reveal that he’s a Lord Prince, Retvik is looking forward to seeing Relkir, Kayel is desperately trying to get under my loincloth and I feel nervous about that.

Unender: Maybe it is just worth sleeping with him and getting the tension out of the way?

Deathbringer: Yeah but…

Deathbringer: Alright, don’t tell ANYONE this… But Kayel Theanon… That was my mother’s common name, almost. My immortal buddy is Kayel Theanon, code KL1492L. My mother, who was a Threan-type Retha, was Kayel Theanon-Aspidon, KL0035L. I don’t want any Oedipus issues.

Unender: As awkward as that is, this new Kayel is clearly a completely different person. Do they look the same as your mother?

Deathbringer: I… I don’t think so. I think she… he… they… they had black and yellow armour, more orange-yellow, and Kayel is almost the same yellow I am.

Unender: Well that is not too bad. I do think you should just go for it. Otherwise you will be filled with regret.

Deathbringer: I might be filled with regret if I do though.

Unender: True, true, but many of your regrets seem to be from you NOT doing things.

Unender: Admittedly, I thought you had already done it.

Deathbringer: I guess… I’ll… I’ll think about it. I kinda just need to get over myself. I mean, we’ve already done other sexual things, just haven’t done the last step.

Unender: I have faith in you. And as someone who lost their virginity in their late 70s, waiting longer is not a good thing.

Deathbringer: Yeah, you’re right. Thanks.

Unender: No worries! I should probably sleep now though. I do need some sleep.

Deathbringer: Yeah, you do that. A pleasure talking to you, as always!

Unender: Same. Good night.

Deathbringer: Sleep well!
