New Potential Hire

“Huh, nice place.”

Electricshadow glanced around as he exited his ship and left the parking area, making his way towards the small collection of buildings. The place seemed somewhat busy right now, with a bunch of Divine Guardians all standing outside a small building to one side, peering into the building and waiting for something. This strange place was apparently Savepoint, the HQ of the Thantir, a Decay Lord sect that occasionally did purifications for the Alsyr, Electricshadow’s own sect. However, lately, Electricshadow had been having problems with the higher ups of the Alsyr, and had taken some time off work to do personal errands.

As Electricshadow got closer though someone came out to greet him.

“Hello!” an armoured being with orange and silver armour exclaimed. “Do you need assistance?”

Electricshadow inspected the being. It was actually almost the same shape that Electricshadow was, except its armour plating wasn’t metallic, the way Electricshadow’s armour was. Electricshadow guessed that this was basically an organic version of a Ksar, the species Electricshadow originally belonged to, but that he couldn’t remember the name of. But it did look very familiar.

“I do actually.”

“Are you hurt? Do you need medical assistance?”

Electricshadow shook his head. “I’m perfectly healthy, thank you. I actually came here to do a job interview with Lord Vikalos, one of the Tattered Navigators, but I got here way too early…” Electricshadow paused, then looked past the being in front of him, spotting someone familiar. “Oh hey, Dawnbreaker!”

Now that he’d seen Dawnbreaker, Electricshadow seemed more confident.

“Hey, dude! Long time no see!”

“Heh, good to see you too, Dawnbreaker. I admittedly forgot you left, but I don’t blame you in the slightest. Who’s your friend here?”

“You don’t need to call me by my codename mate, you can call me Psiksi. Us Thantir don’t care much for codenames! Anyway, this is Teekay, codename Shocktrooper. He’s a Skyavok, same as me!”

Teekay suddenly put two and two together. So did Electricshadow.

“Oh hey, another Teekay!” Electricshadow exclaimed. “Oh! You’re in the Too Many Teekays chat!”

Teekay nodded. “I am, yeah. I’m who you all call Skyan Teekay. Kaytee, Loopblade-6, is here too, but he’s currently napping right now. So you’re here for a job interview?”

“Yep. I heard you lot were hiring.”

“Oh?” Teekay beamed. “That’s awesome. We’ve not really had anyone approach us. Most folks seem to think that being purifiers is too scary and dangerous. Which I find really weird because Voidborn Eradicator sects and Corruption Purger sects seem to be really common.”

Electricshadow thought for a moment. “I’ll be honest, I think most of those sects have one or two people who do amputations and basic purifications. The Alsyr kinda do but, uh, they are… uh… not very proficient… We tend to go towards “prevention is better than cure”, but Thastarii can regrow limbs so it’s kinda… easier to just amputate most of the time.”

“What’s a Thastarii?” Teekay asked.

“They’re the uplifted species of the Kentarasa Pentacluster,” Psiksi explained. “Same way we have Beh’ens here in Patagenic and Zarians in the Tennoraka Pentacluster. They’re lizardy bastards. All black with their only colour coming from their elemental breath powers and ephemeras.”

“Like Temthans?”

“Yeah, but more draconic.”

“Huh…” Teekay turned back to his brand new same-named friend. “So, you want to work for us now?”

Electricshadow nodded. “I want to, yes. Ever since Dawnbreaker left, I’ve had folks calling me a Beh’ena, even though I’m even less like a Beh’ena than Dawnbreaker is. Plus, thanks to whoever the fuck Deathbringer is, the Alsyr are renegotiating all our contracts, and I’m fishing around for new options. My duties have always been as a roaming medic, using my teleportation powers to teleport Kenic Spores out of patients and into special canisters, which I then send to the removals department and they detonate them in a safe location.”

“What about Corruption?” Teekay asked.

“I thought Vikalos was doing the interviews around here!” Psiksi butted in. “Anyway, Vikalos is busy right now, he’s doing his shift as a Corruption Burner, and he’ll probably be a couple of hours.”

Electricshadow shrugged. “That’s fine. I got here way, way too early anyway. I was also kinda considering speaking to the Pentathax as well but they’re moving into that hellhole pentacluster next door and I’m more Voidborn-leaning than Corruption-leaning when it comes to my preferences of what to fight. But… I’m kinda worried that there’s no real space for me here. I take it you guys don’t get much Voidborn crap any more.”

Teekay gestured at where all the Divine Guardians were gathered. “Oh, we definitely do. Sure, the Golden Doom or whatever they’re called are gone now, but there’s still a bunch of rogue Voidborns doing evil shit occasionally, not to mention those bastard “Collector’s Sons” guys. Those guys over there are all panicky because their Life Goddess flirted with a Voidborn then pissed them off majorly. And, like, we occasionally do other piss as well. My work time’s split between being a greeter and helping Kaytee fix up crashed ships.”

Electricshadow blinked. “Ship repairs?”

“Yeah. We get a ship crashing into Savepoint at least once an ev…” Teekay paused. “Uh… can I call you Teekay? Or something? Or do I have to call you Electricshadow? Because it’s a cool codename but… well…”

“Oh, friend, I totally get that. You can call me Teekay if you want. The Alsyr are funny with codenames and I’m already glad you Thantir aren’t too fussed. I suppose, since we all call you Skyan Teekay, you can call me Ksar Teekay. The Ksar were my species.”

“Cool!” Teekay smiled. “Sadly, I really want to talk more, but I kinda gotta do my job as the main greeter today, but Psiksi can show you around, if you want.”

“If he wants?” Psiksi almost hissed. “Mate, I’m showing my fellow Alsyr around whether any of you Teekays like it or not!”

Ksar Teekay shrugged some more. “Yeah, fair enough. Honestly, I’m pretty excited about all of this.”

“Good. I think you’ll like it here.”

“Assuming the interview with Lord Vikalos goes well.”

“I’m sure it will!” Psiksi beamed. “Just… don’t call him Lord. He doesn’t like that. But otherwise, you’ll be fine.”
