Rocks and Breath

“THERE IS A HOLE IN THE SHIP!” Kuta was unable to stop himself from shouting. “THERE IS A MASSIVE HOLE IN THE SHIP WHERE THE BATHROOM SHOULD BE!”

Retvik patted Kuta on the shoulder, a vague attempt to calm the fresh Decayling down. “It is not that big.”

Through the hole, Arkay could be seen outside, spraying some kind of sealant. But he wasn’t wearing any protective gear, nor had they locked the ship down or anything. A gigantic crack in the ship’s hull and no one was that bothered. All they’d done is come to a stop.

“HOW ARE WE NOT ALL SUFFOCATING?”

“Because we are, for lack of a better way of putting it, immortal!” Arkay’s voice echoed from outside. “I mean, I was always immortal, but now you are too! Don’t need your lungs any more!”

Kuta settled down a little. “I… I guess? But I am still breathing!”

“Your lungs aren’t needed but they don’t magically disappear!” Arkay reappeared inside the bathroom and started sealing up the rest of the hole from there. “Your body is still the same but-”

“My body is not the same though!” Kuta protested. “This is not what I looked like!”

Arkay stopped what he was doing and turned to Kuta. “You didn’t have an icy motif?”

Kuta shook his head.

“What did you look like then?”

“Dark and black,” Retvik shrugged, still patting Kuta on the back. “Darker than dark. He is otherwise unrecognisable now.”

“Oh?” Arkay looked confused. “So how comes…”

“I… created a new form for myself. An antithesis to my brother. He is drawn to the dark recesses of the mind, I wanted to lean towards the light. Be my own person. Be better than Litvir…” Kuta tried to clarify himself. At the very least, it was lessening the shock from both feeling and then seeing a massive hole in the side of what Kuta assumed was formerly a rather sturdy ship. “I assumed that I would just make myself beautiful and pure, especially since Litvir is so dark.”

“To be fair, that is not hard…” Retvik frowned. “At least, in the past, that would not be hard. He IS different now.”

“Is he though?” Kuta asked. “You seem to believe that, Retvik. But how do I know that he is not mind-controlling you?”

Retvik frowned. “Well… I do not. But at the same time, I could kill Litvir in less than a heartbeat. And our hearts beat far, far faster than they used to. So we have a somewhat mutual understanding.

“He’s also not mind-controlling me!” Arkay smiled. “If anyone tries that, I get… very dangerous. But, speaking of Litvir, where is he?”

Retvik’s frown turned into a smile. “Last time I checked, he was in the cockpit, getting flying lessons from Galyn.”

“Wait…” Kuta glanced at the bathroom, where there had been formerly a large hole. Arkay had managed to patch it up. “Did… Litvir do this?”

“By accident, yes.”

“But… there is… nothing out there. We are flying through an endless void.”

Retvik smiled some more. “Yes, which is what makes this situation so funny. Litvir managed to hit the one rock in this entire sub-sector.”

Kuta stifled a laugh. “That is hilarious.”

“I know!” Retvik laughed. “We should go laugh at him.”

“We should!” Kuta giggled as well.

Arkay however just tutted. “You two go do that. I need to finish fixing this hole.”
