Maresia sighed to herself as she wandered around her mansion. Currently, it was empty apart from her, but only a few minutes ago, all the cleaning staff had left, tidying the place and wiping everything down after a large party. Ever since Maresia had been given divinity and made into the Goddess of Love, the Temthan government had given her basically everything she wanted in order to make her feel happy, in exchange for blessings. The holy, religious side of the Temthans believed her to be the direct descendent of the Allbirther, their now lost matron deity and holy leader, and they didn’t want to lose her or upset her. They needed her to be happy.
But Maresia wasn’t happy. She was lonely. Maresia was the only survivor in her village of 5000 Temthans, and the only reason she survived was because she had rushed off to all the other, more remote villages, to warn them about the Sudden Darkness. All Maresia’s friends and family were gone forever. With nothing left to bury. Sure, Maresia had created beautiful flowering gardens in their memories, but it wasn’t the same.
What bothered Maresia more though was that she didn’t know whether to continue the family name or not. Being female, if Maresia had kids, they would take their father’s surname. Maresia’s brother Limneas had kids, but he and his wife and three cute little boys were gone. Vanished. Consumed. So was Agapres, the cute guy Maresia routinely flirted with and dated on the regular. They were going to settle down one day.
More sighs. The mansion felt particularly empty and glum today. Maybe it was because it was cloudy. There wasn’t much sun at all. Maresia did live at the top of a very tall hill with a good view, but the location meant that, in the winter months, the sun dipped behind the other hills rather quickly, making it darker earlier. Same with the sunrise. Beautiful but delayed. Assuming it wasn’t cloudy. Maresia though didn’t want sun or clouds. She wanted storms. The rain and lightning always made her feel better. She’d sit by the windows, watching the water run by. Maresia did consider asking Dalosisaar, Valksia or Kohra to change the weather for her, but they had better things to do. And Maresia wasn’t in the mood to talk.
Actually, that wasn’t quite true. Maresia wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk about sex. The party she had just hosted, it was more of an orgy than anything else. Admittedly, Temthans having orgies wasn’t exactly rare, they were a very sexually open and promiscuous race, but Maresia was being torn by her Temthan side and her godly side. She was the god of love now. Her duty was to continue Sini’s teachings, to make sure the universe’s population was stable and healthy. That fought directly against Maresia’s desires to have safe, protected sex. She was a Temthan, she was the sort to travel sexually, to have fun and party until her 40s before even considering settling down and having kids. But, technically, Maresia was also technically the goddess of having kids.
Really, it made the idea of kids in general rather tricky. Maresia hadn’t been told that she could or couldn’t have kids. She did want kids at some point. Lots of them. Or did she only want a couple? Maresia wasn’t sure. And that uncertainty was definitely tied to her godly duties. And who would Maresia even have kids with? The person she wanted to have kids with was dead. Then again, Maresia was the Goddess of Love, the new matron saint of the Temthans. She could have literally anyone she wanted.
Maresia pondered that thought a bit. She really could have anyone. The party had shown that literally everyone wanted to sleep with Maresia. She hadn’t really slept around much, since she was the host, she was more the matchmaker of the party, but everyone wanted a piece of her. It felt both nice and odd, because Maresia wasn’t the sexiest Temthan alive. She was conventionally attractive, but she wasn’t Maria Panayia, the beautiful nearly white Temthan porn star that pretty much every single Temthan had at least had thoughts about. Then again, being the matron saint of the Temthans, it was possible that Maresia could find a way to bed the sexiest Temthan ever. She did bend both ways, after all (most Temthans did).
However, while sleeping with a famous porn star was an interesting idea, that wouldn’t be a good way of getting kids. Maresia needed a male Temthan for that.
Smiling, Maresia reached for her tablet and started searching. Her very first suggestion was D-Bone, the male porn star equivalent of Maria Panayia. But while he was incredibly sexy and apparently incredibly fertile, his biggest claim to fame was his colossal dick and that didn’t seem healthy in the long run. Or the short run. Maresia didn’t consider herself particularly stretchy.
Instead, Maresia decided to just look up listicles about the sexiest Temthans around that weren’t in the sex industry. What came up were mostly fashion models and movie stars. Again, not quite what Maresia wanted. Fashion models were only superficially attractive and muscular. Movie stars were better but often more controversial and prone to scandals. Maresia then decided to look up sports stars and, almost immediately, she found who she was looking for. Timik Lilac-Crown was a gladiator, a strong, healthy, long-lived Temthan with a very unique colouring and, more importantly, he was still single. Which meant Maresia could make arrangements. She could do things. She could make this work.
Thunder interrupted Maresia’s trail of thought for a moment. It was starting to rain. Perfect. But as the rain and wind picked up, Maresia realized something. She was suddenly thinking about trying to have the most successful kids possible. She was scheming in the exact same way the old Allbirther used to scheme. Pairing perfect specimens, finding the perfect mate, to make the perfect next generation.
That thought scared Maresia. She didn’t want to think like that. That was the duty of the higher gods, of the new Allmaker. At least, so far. Maresia wasn’t ready for that sort of high-level, long term work yet.
With a sigh, Maresia put her tablet down, then got up to make herself some hot chocolate and fetch her favourite blanket. She needed to clear her head, and watching the swelling storm outside was the best way to do so.
