Staycation

Litvir waited for the locks to all click shut, then made his way to the dining area where his friends were all sitting. As he walked, Litvir telekinetically picked up a tray from the nearby buffet area and covered it in various breads and butters, before sitting down himself.

“Cheers, mate!” Eksi immediately grabbed a bun and probably too much butter. “I’m bloody starving.”

“We no longer require food though…” Teekay muttered, hesitating slightly before reaching for a bread roll himself. “The feelings are still there though…”

“Of course not. Our physical bodies know this already.” Litvir exclaimed, handing a bun and some butter to Relkir. “But our minds have not adapted yet. It takes time to forget skills and feelings that are not useful. Anyway, what do you three all wish to do for our little holiday?”

Teekay tutted, gesturing around him. “Kinisis said to keep the place locked and stop vok from coming in. This isn’t a holiday.”

“But we can treat it as one!” Eksi beamed.

“We have orders, Eksi. We can’t ignore them.”

“We’re not ignoring them, we’re just doing things our own way!”

Teekay grunted some more, before glancing over to Relkir. “What do you think?”

Relkir thought to himself, slowly chewing through the bread roll he had just stuffed into his mouth.

“Relkir?”

“He’s eating, Eksi.”

Eventually, Relkir managed to swallow his food, giving Eksi a bit of a mean look as he did so.

“Why do I always pick the worst time to eat something?” Relkir sighed, wiping his face. “The way I see things, we do have an opportunity to, well, relax a little. But that relaxation has to be balanced with the duties Kinisis gave us. Everything must be locked up and anyvok who want to visit must be turned away.”

“Yeah but we can still relax in the mean time, right?”

“As long as Kinisis’ chores are done,” Relkir shugged, “if we finish our duties first, yes we can have a bit of a holiday.”

Teekay leaned over to Relkir, hissing somewhat. “You know Kinisis would not appro-”

“Of course she would approve, ” Litvir interjected. “We four are sensible beings and the tasks that Kinisis has asked of us are not that complicated. If we do make a mess, we will clean it up and Kinisis will be none the wiser.”

Relkir shrugged. “I am of the opinion that Kinisis knows exactly what she is doing, considering she put us in charge of this place while it is closed. If she is anything like the Allbirther, I would say that she almost expects us to ‘bunk off’ from work. Otherwise, why did she leave the full buffet open, the fountains turned on and the various guest rooms all accessible for us to use?”

“Who is the Allbirther?” Eksi asked.

“Kinisis’s daughter, Yisini, the Goddess of Life.”

“And death!” Teekay added.

“And death, yes, Teekay…” Relkir shrugged some more. “Either way, it does very much seem like Kinisis set everything up for us to have some sort of vacation.”

“A stay-at-home vacation? A staycation?” Eksi started bouncing in his seat. “That’s awesome!”

“But…” Teekay stuttered. “What about the chores? I really don’t want Kinisis to be back and pissed off with us.”

Litvir laughed, taking another bread roll for himself. “Do not fret, little one. We are all adults, we can do this stuff, no problem.”

Teekay crossed his arms and huffed. “Alright, fine. But if they get back and we get in trouble, I will say that it was all your idea, Litvir…”
