Post-Date Queries

“Hey, Arkay, how was it?”

“How was what, Kalis?” Arkay asked back, turning his attention away from the computer he was working on. Kalis was hovering, both metaphorically and physically, as if he had been waiting for the best time to step in.

“Your date!”

“Oh!” Arkay smiled a bit. “It was nice. Very nice.”

Kalis stopped hovering and sat down next to Arkay. “You gonna tell me what happened?”

“It was a date. It was nice.”

Kalis gave Arkay a weird look. “Are you capable of any descriptive words aside from “nice” or are you being secretive on purpose?”

Arkay shrugged. “I just… Alright, it’s not because I don’t have much to say. I have a lot to say. We had a great time and we’re going to go on a second date. It’s just… I feel bubbly and awkward right now and I can’t really… describe things…”

“Was your date that mind-blowing that you can’t talk?”

“No, it was just a simple date. We went to the cinema and then went and had dinner together. It was really nice. I just… I am just at a loss for words. And I also have no idea how you’ll react, because I bet you’d immediately tell the others.”

“I wouldn’t do that. At least, not without your permission! Am I that… bad?”

Arkay grunted. “You spoiled the ending of that super hero movie we were planning on watching.”

“Good point.”

With a sigh, Arkay decided to explain himself a bit better, as Kalis clearly wasn’t getting it. “The date was genuinely really nice, and we did a lot of talking. I’m just… shocked and a little annoyed at myself for having done nothing all these years. I could have been dating decades ago but I let my low self-esteem and an abusive father figure get in my way.” Arkay sighed some more. “That and I never expected that he’d be so sweet and understanding and that we’d have so much in common.”

Kalis tilted his head to one side. “You haven’t dated at all before?”

“No, not really. Never had the chance to. Reality wanted me to wait.”

“Yeah… same for me, I guess…”

Both Kalis and Arkay fell silent. Arkay returned to the computer screen he had been working on. Kalis sat where he was, twiddling his thumbs.”

“I got one last question…” Kalis lowered his voice. “Did you do it?”

“Do what?”

“You know, it!

“You mean…”

“Did you have sex with him?”

Arkay rolled his eyes. “What? No! Of course not! Not on the first date! But…” Arkay lowered his voice a little, matching Kalis’s. “But I did kiss him. Just a little peck on the cheek.”

Kalis let loose a sly smile. “Awesome.”

“Yeah, definitely…”

“So!” Kalis leaned back, returning to his normal slightly-too-loud indoor voice. “You going on another date any time soon?”

Arkay nodded. “Yes, actually. I am quite hyped about it.”

“Awesome… Anyway!” Kalis got up, stretching his arms. “Let me know how it goes, alright?”

“Will do,” Arkay smiled. “Will do…”
