Woken Up Late

Teekay yawned as he woke up, then immediately gasped as he saw what time it was. 11am! He was supposed to have gotten up at 9am! Somehow, without noticing, Teekay had overslept by two hours. But that was only part of the problem. Teekay had initially planned to only have a quick nap at about 9pm, so he could wake up and talk to some of his old friends during the night.

Climbing out of bed, Teekay very quickly put something on, then made his way down to the kitchen area, where someone was waiting for him.

“Sorry I’m late, Eksi!” Teekay huffed. “Should have been up earlier, but I overslept.”

Eksi stared at Teekay. “We have today off.”

“We do?”

“Yes. It’s the weekend. It’s Saturday.”

Teekay blinked. “It’s Saturday?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Really?”

“Stop it, Teekay.”

Teekay did as he was asked, and stopped, instead turning his attention to the fridge.

“I should have woken up earlier. Wasted the day sleeping.”

Eksi shrugged. “Clearly you needed the sleep. If that’s what the body needs, that’s what the body does. Plus, a lie-in doesn’t hurt every so often.”

Teekay frowned. Eksi shrugged some more, then spooned some milk and cereal into his mouth.

“What are you eating?”

“Coco puffs.”

“A bit sugary, don’t you think?”

“Yeah but it’s the weekend, who cares?” Eksi swallowed another spoonful of milk and cereal. “We’ve got two days to do whatever the fuck we want, and I don’t see any problem with me eating some unhealthy food or you sleeping in for a bit. It’s time to recuperate.”

“I had intended to stay up late though and missed my chance to do so!” Teekay exclaimed. “I wanted to talk to some friends!”

“Well just apologise to them and say you want to talk tonight!” Eksi smiled. “Nothing wrong with apologising.”

“Yeah, I know…” Teekay frowned. “I just feel a bit dumb. I set alarms and everything. Yet I still managed to sleep through all of my alarms.”

“Eh, it happens, mate. Who were you gonna chat with anyway?”

“A few of my old friends from the K-Class. Probably just Enkay, we haven’t chatted in ages.”

“Sounds like fun!” Eksi beamed. “I make sure to text my siblings every other day. They’re all fine.”

“How many siblings do you have again?”

“Three. We’re quadruplets. Arksi is the oldest. Me and Thitaksi are the middle children, Psiksi is the youngest. Although we generally don’t really care about who is actually the oldest since we all hatched at the same time.”

Teekay shrugged. “Fair enough. I was an only child. Wouldn’t have minded a sibling while growing up, but oh well.”

“Yeah but you got friends though. A good friend is better than a sibling because you can choose to have good relations with them.”

“Fair enough…” Teekay trailed off, realizing he was hungry. “Do we have any other cereals?”

“Probably. The magic cupboard has pretty much everything.”

Teekay wandered over to the cupboard, then opened it up. He immediately grabbed a box of cornflakes and pulled it out.

“Ah, a classic!” Eksi beamed as he handed Teekay a bowl. “Always a good way to start the day.”

“Even if it’s close to lunchtime!” Teekay nodded in agreement. “Cheers.”
