Agents of Stasis, more commonly known as Deitics, are god-like beings with the ability to manipulate the universe around them. Once a Deitic is born, they cannot die of natural causes. They have no true physical forms, but anchor themselves to a physical body, a soulroot, that is created for them at birth. Should their soulroot take too much damage, a Deitic will ‘respawn’, similar to beings in video games, with a newly regenerated soulroot identical to their previous one.
Deitics can only be killed by very specific means, by having their soulroot permanently destroyed. This generally happens via Agents of Renewal, although some mortals also have the ability to permanently destroy Deitics with the right tools.
Unlike mortals, Deitics do not have souls and many waste their lives trying to find a way to create souls for themselves. When a Deitic dies, they are gone forever, with no bringing them back. Because of this, they often tempt mortals into giving up their souls to them, for Deitics to experiment with and eventually try and absorb, founding religions and cults along the way. Though these souls are relinquished when a Deitic is killed, their prying and temptation causes a lot of disruption.
Miso-Deitics are beings created by Deitics, using souls they have stolen. They come in two forms: races created by the Deitics – such as Zonta and Kronari; and Paido-Deitics, children born from the union between a Deitic and a mortal being. These beings have souls and can die normally.
