Like anywhere with living beings, bacteria and viruses are always the organisms that flourish the most, occasionally causing illness among larger creatures. This article is a list of the most common illnesses in the Phoviverse.
Gripi
Symptoms: Stomach cramps, back pain, headaches, nausea, lasting for approximately 2 weeks if untreated.
Spread: Airborne virus
Affects: All nitrogen-breathing beings (Vohra, Vreka, Bayvak, Retha, other Panvok beings)
Remedy: Bed rest, warm drinks and soups, avoiding heavily flavoured foods. Eventually passes on its own but can cause severe discomfort.
Type 3 Influenza
Symptoms: Similar to human-based influenza, but with less sneezing and more coughing. Type 3 Influenza isn’t actually related to human-based influenza, but acts in a very similar way.
Spread: Airborne virus
Affects: Oxygen-breathing beings (Cassids, Thanatians, Banikans) and Retha
Remedy: Bed rest, keeping hydrated
Vaccine: Yes, every 6 months
Type 4 Influenza
Symptoms: Similar to human-based influenza. Also causes diarrhea and dehydration.
Spread: Airborne virus
Affects: Vreka, Vohra, rarely Bayvak
Remedy: Bed rest, vast amounts of fibrous food, high amounts of Vitamin C. Unlike human-based illnesses, Vitamin C actually works.
Vaccine: Yes, different every year.
Agriopsyhia
Symptoms: Causes hallucinations, which can increase aggression. If untreated, hallucinations become permanent, causing the infected to live in a constant state of blood lust. Lasts indefinitely.
Spread: Long term contact with other infected beings
Affects: Varga, Thanatians, Cassids
Remedy: Yearly injections, with more required if cases are severe
Feralxia
Symptoms: Suddenly and swiftly increases adrenaline, causing high levels of aggression and foaming at the mouth. Victims lose their inhibitions and often wake up in strange places a few days later. Memory loss during illness is common. Lasts up to 2 weeks, before disappearing as quickly as it came.
Spread: Waterborne bacteria
Affects: Thanatians, Banikans, Vreka, Retha, Varga
Remedy: Infected must be kept sedated and bound until the bacteria passes. No vaccination exists, but effects while effected can be lessened via the consumption of carbonated sugar beverages.
Vrykolaxia
Symptoms: Infected become incredibly dehydrated, gain a desire to eat raw flesh and drink blood and feel weak and dizzy while in sunlight. Symptoms are often delayed for up to 7 days.
Spread: Blood and saliva contamination
Affects: All races
Remedy: Injections or tablets containing highly concentrated onion essence, followed by a vegetarian diet (if applicable) for 2 weeks.
Zakhara
Symptoms: The victim’s immune system becomes hyperactive, killing many illnesses before they start and increasing one’s resistance to illness, but stops various organs from producing certain hormones, particularly the pancreas. Can lead to illnesses such as juvenile onset diabetes if not caught early.
Spread: Causes unknown, believed to be hereditary.
Affects: Vohra, Retha under the age of 50, Bayvak under the age of 24
Remedy: If caught within 2 months, can be cured with hormone injections. After 2 months, it cannot be cured, but can be treated with monthly injections, daily pills or a combination of the two, depending on the severity of the case.
Blind Strike Syndrome
Symptoms: The victim becomes partially paralyzed, often in just one limb. In rare cases, the whole body can be paralyzed.
Spread: Fungal infection spread by water above 40C
Affects: All races, particularly Banikans and Thropes
Remedy: The victim’s body is cooled significantly. This quickly kills the infection. Paralysis fades after two days.
Skylopoioa
Symptoms: Infected beings become heavily sedated during daytime and aggressive at night. Hair, fur or additional scales grow along one’s upper limbs and back.
Spread: Blood and saliva contamination.
Affects: All races except Vohra and Bayvak
Remedy: Large doses of salty water and tablets containing high concentrations of copper.
