Discussions of Fronts

“So, uh, we have had a grand total of three Life Goddesses pop by…” Kuta muttered under his breath. “Thought we would see more. Since we have been open for a few days now.”

Litvir tutted from behind the bar at the Kinigi Oasis, helping himself to a drink. However, he opted to not say anything.

“You are not worried?” Kuta asked. “We are at a Life Oasis, a weird hotel bar thing, and no one has come in? I may have essentially flunked economics back in my school days, but I am pretty sure a place like this has to make some money!”

This time, Litvir looked up, then tutted some more. “You really think Allmaker Kinisis made this place to make money?”

“I would assume so, yes. Why would she make it otherwise? All of this costs money and resources and-”

Kuta paused. The twins had both spotted Kinisis floating by. Rather weirdly, their boss Galyn was following her. Once the two elder beings were out of sight and earshot, Kuta continued what he was saying.

“This IS supposed to be a business, right? Why are they not treating it like one?”

Litvir finished making his drink. It was a tall, frothy chocolate milkshake with cream on top. He then started work on a second one. “It is not a business.”

“What is it then?”

“A front.”

“What?” Kuta started getting a bit annoyed. “I really do not get what is going on with this place. What am I protecting? Why?”

With a shrug, Litvir added the final touch to the second milkshake, then brought it over to Kuta, who begrudgingly accepted it.

“What do you mean about it being a front?”

“I believe this place is really just a front for selling that strange liquid, as well as something made just for the Allmaker’s amusement. You really think that this whole area actually cost anything? That any resources were actually spent? No, Kinisis created all of this out of nothing.”

Kuta blinked. “But… how?”

“She is a Life Goddess. She literally made the universe we came from.” Litvir took an overly long sip from his drink, using an oversized straw. “She can do pretty much anything if she puts her mind to it.”

“I suppose, when you put it that way…” Kuta trailed off, glugging his own drink and getting whipped cream on his face. After licking it all off, Kuta switched the subject up a little. “So, uh, why is Galyn interested in her?”

“You mean, as a friend? Or romantically?”

Kuta shrugged. “Both, perhaps?”

Litvir glanced around the room, then shut his mouth, switching from voice communication to telepathy. “You noticed it too, I assume?”

After a brief moment of hesitation, Kuta nodded, replying in his own telepathy. “Yeah, it is pretty obvious. But it concerns me a little.”

“Indeed. While I am somewhat concerned, I also have no idea how to… softly recommend to Galyn that dating a Life Goddess is a bad idea.”

Kuta shrugged. “He is a grown adult. We shouldn’t interfere.”

“Yes, well… we should be cautious anyway…”
