Ditching Guardians

Kinisis clapped her hands together with glee as she and her loyal guardians stepped out of her ship and onto the crystal landing pad. Standing to one side, waiting to greet them, was Kairos, the Whenvern and Dragon God of Time.

“Oooh! You redecorated!” Kinisis beamed, giving Kairos a quick hug.

“Completely renovated, actually…” Kairos explained. “I’ve basically extended the entire crystal palatial system. Epani and I turned it from small singular bases into a complete crystal guard system that basically covers the whole universe.”

“Wonderful!” Kinisis beamed. “You don’t mind if I leave my little ship here, do you?”

Kairos nodded. “That’s the whole point of a landing pad. But… well, I have a request from Epani and Yisini before you settle down and make yourself at home.”

“Oh?” Kinisis blinked. “Uh, what sort of request? Nothing tedious, I hope!”

The Whenvern grunted, turning his attention to Kinisis’s Guardians. “When it comes to god-like entities, we’re… how do I say this? We want to limit them. Having you around is fine. Having twelve deitic beings that are only loyal to you, in a place where we only have 4 deitic beings total is problematic. So Epani requested that you… leave most of your crew up here. In the specially made containment suite.”

“You want me to put my guardians in cells?”

“What? No!” Kairos exclaimed, flapping his wings. “Not at all! It’s all completely furnished and I think they’d all like it there! Epani just doesn’t want them inside the universe!”

“Why?”

“She’s scared of a hostile takeover.”

Kinisis blinked some more. “Why?”

“I don’t get it either…” Kairos grumbled. “But I don’t want Epani being uncomfortable, and it’s a small request, so that’s why I’m asking nicely now.”

With a shrug, Kinisis turned to her Guardians, all of whom seemed rather unsure about Kairos’s request. Then again, they were all programmed to want to defend Kinisis at all costs, so of course the request was worrisome to them. With another shrug, Kinisis turned back to Kairos.

“How many of them can I bring with me?”

“Hm…” Kairos paused. “I didn’t ask Epani. But I’d say no more than three. Preferably just one or two.”

“One or two?”

“Don’t want you outnumbering us.”

“Fair…”

Kinisis turned back to her Guardians, looking all twelve of them up and down.

“Hm. Which of you little bastards want to come with me?”

There was some hesitation. But after a moment, eleven of the twelve guardians raised their hands. Immediately, Kinisis called out the naysayer.

“Tahnahos, you’re coming since you didn’t raise your hand. Phovos will come as well because she’s my best Guardian.”

The ten other guardians all sighed. Kinisis nodded at Tahnahos and Phovos, who followed her inside the palace. Kairos waited for them to clear the area, then turned to the remaining guardians.

“Did you all know she’d do that?” Kairos asked.

“Of course!” several Guardians replied in unison. A silver and orange Skyavok stepped forward, automatically taking over as leader of the group.

“How?”

“She’s really predictable,” the Skyavok explained. “Kinisis’s sense of humour is quite obvious. Plus, we all knew Tahnahos wanted to go see his siblings, so we coordinated to make sure that would be possible.”

Kairos glanced behind him, tutting. “I forgot that was what that bastard looked like when not an ugly, lanky Rethavok. Anyway, the lot of you, follow me. I got a nice place for you all to chill out for a week or so…”
