Kairos is one of the three multi-dimensional beings that controls the Phoviverse, and controls the passing of time, making sure that it always flows forward and never backward. He is often referred to as the Whenvern, the Forwyrm or Dragension, and in his few appearances to mortals, appears as a spindly white, black and silver creature with three horns on its head, three flowing tails and armour plating in the shape of arrowheads. Kairos often calls himself the Dragon God of Time. He is allied with Kinisis, and his linear time keeps the Cycle from repeating without changing. Kairos considers himself a staunch enemy of Kenos, better known as Stasis and the antithesis of all Kairos stands for.
The Whenvern spends most of his time flying through and around the Phoviverse, correcting time as he does so. He has no particular home and is constantly on the move. His main duty is to keep time moving forward in a linear fashion, as well as fixing time glitches and paradoxes. Kairos also protects against the machinations of Stasis and his Deitic minions. His abilities include speeding up and slowing down time, unfreezing time and ‘merging’ timelines in order to make paradoxes no longer exist. Kairos is not capable of stopping time entirely and because of this, he cannot physically remain still in any way.
The minions of the Whenvern are called Kronaron, or Time-Drakes. They are rare beings of varied races, often created by accident as Kairos corrects chronal errors at the time of conception. Those created on purpose are generally virgin births. All Kronaron are unable to die of natural causes and will seemingly stop aging after a certain age. Time-Drakes are collected by Kairos when they are supposed to die and are placed in stasis for later use.
Because of his connection to forward movement, Kairos only ever speaks in the present tense and appears to improperly remember the past, seeing himself always in a good light. Unless a being works directly with the Whenvern for extended periods of time or is created from Kairos’s seed, any mortal that meets Kairos will not remember doing so once the Whenvern disappears. Deitics who meet Kairos will struggle to remember details about their meeting. Those that do remember Kairos will often say that he is a proud and boastful being, but that he cares for mortal beings ‘because Kinisis made them’. He has little to no patience for Deitics but will ignore them if they prove themselves to be harmless.
It is believed that Kairos was born before the Phoviverse was, and was the cause of the universe’s ‘Big Bang’, causing a new Cycle to start. The Whenvern originally was not sentient at this time, and gradually gained sentience over time, as sentient life began to form.
At the end of the universe, Kairos will leave the universe and fly off on his own, leaving several of his Time-Drakes to continue forwards and become Whenverns themselves. These new Whenverns will then go on to start new Cycles and boost new universes.
