Missing Coms

“They have been gone for too long.”

Galyn stood on the pier where ships were quietly parked, away from the splendors of Kinisis’s oasis. He was staring into the vast darkness before him, shifting awkwardly from side to side.

“Who have?”

Galyn paused for a moment, having thought that he was alone. Behind him was Kinisis herself, wrapped in a shimmering dress of sorts, looking a little too fancy.

“Our little team of heroes. I have not heard from Retvik, he was supposed to radio in yesterday, but I have not heard from any of them. Not even from Tenuk, with his telepathic prowess.”

“Oh.” Kinsis’s reply was brief. “Maybe they are busy.”

Galyn shook his head. “No, even when busy, they at least call home. But I have heard nothing at all.”

“You seem concerned.”

“I am concerned.”

“Did you call them?”

Galyn sighed. “I messaged them. But I have not had any replies. I am worried that something may have attacked them. A wild Life Goddess perhaps.”

“Huh, I’d have heard about that if it happened. Us Life Goddesses can’t resist showing off new merchandise.” Kinisis lifted herself into the air so she was at eye level with Galyn. “I’d be more concerned about them being caught by corruption or voidborns or something. Or, well, them being dead.”

The Decay Lord frowned. “You are not making me feel any better.”

“I’m trying to make you feel worse. If you are concerned, then you need to do something. Although my betting money is that they got preoccupied looting a Life Goddess’s abandoned building. While I am not one for mazes, most of my sisters love extravagant and ceaseless corridors.”

Galyn sighed some more. “You are most likely right, Kinisis. Still, I will continue trying to communicate with them.”

“I’m sure they’ll answer. Plus, we do have different time zones. Perhaps where they are is affected by a different time drake or something! You know how time drakes can be with their temporal and territorial areas! Or they might just have damaged communication systens or something…” Kinisis smiled, adjusting her dress. “Will you be joining the oasis party tonight?”

The Decay Lord shook his head. “I would like to but I must try and work out what my team are up to. While what you say is probable, I need to know for sure, and make sure they are not in trouble.”

“Ah, alright then!” Kinisis was still smiling, but not as much as she was before. “Feel free to join me if you fancy it.”

Galyn bowed slightly. “Thank you, Kinisis.”

Kinisis bowed back, then floated off back to the oasis proper, leaving Galyn alone once more.

Galyn remained where he was for a moment, somewhat lost in thought. After a while though, one particular thought came to mind.

“No, they are not ready…” Galyn murmured to himself. “Well, maybe they are… They just have not been on a live mission yet…”

Galyn grunted some more, then flicked open his communicator.

“Litvir, please meet me in my office. I have a job for you…”
