Hopefully Quick

“Litvir. Please come in.”

Litvir glanced around as he entered Galyn’s office. Something was definitely wrong, he could sense the emotional aura that Galyn was emitting.

“Is something wrong, ser?” Litvir decided to try and get to the point straight away. The aura was almost overwhelming, but it was most likely that Galyn had no idea about the aura.

“Yes, something is potentially wrong. I have spent the last twenty four hours trying to get in touch with our Dessaron and have not managed to get through to them in any way. I was hoping that, perhaps, with your telepathy, you may be able to establish a link between us once more.”

“Um…” Litvir hesitated. “That somewhat depends on how far away they are. And what happens to be between them. My range out here is not particularly impressive. Even if I happened to be boosted by someone else.”

“Ah yes, the rest of your little team could help…” Galyn rubbed his chin. “Perhaps if you-”

“As powerful our telepathic links are, it will not be enough if they are too far away…” Litvir paused. “Where did you send them anyway?”

“I sent them to the abandoned villa that Arkadin nearly destroyed after… well, it turns out she did not die after all. But-”

“Oh. That place.”

“Yes.”

Litvir snorted. “That is too far away for me to reach telepathically.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Even with assistance from others.”

Galyn crossed his arms. “Hmph, that leaves me with no other choice. I am going to have to send you in.”

“Yes, maybe… wait… what?” Litvir opened his mouth in shock. “You want to send me in?”

“All four of you, yes.”

“You want to send all four of us? To a place where your favourites have gone and disappeared at?” Litviir exclaimed. “You know that we are not like them.”

Galyn nodded his head. “That is why I will be sending you all in. You have a tighter telepathic grip on each other and work just as well as a team.”

“Ser, I apologize, but I do not think this is a good idea!” Litvir protested. “I… we have not had proper combat training the same way Retvik’s team has.”

“It is not the combat training you need. This is a communications mission. You will go out there, track down the Dessaron then report back, so I can send out a dedicated rescue team to the correct destination. Your team is not designed for combat, but for search and rescue.”

Litvir closed his eyes and sighed loudly. “I still believe that we are not quite ready for this sort of thing. If the problem was not dealt with by the Dessaron, then my team and I are potentially set up to fail as well.”

“I understand your concerns, but you and your team are better than you believe. After all, you have kept this oasis safe and in top condition, and you in particular Litvir, you proved your expertise to me already, back when we sailed on the Thantir Two.”

“I appreciate that but…” Litvir trailed off. “Are you sure this will just be a communications mission? I do not want anyone on my team to be injured.”

“I am sure, Litvir.”

“Fine. I shall go and speak to them.”

“Please do,” Galyn grunted. “In the mean time, I will ready your ship. Understood?”

“Understood, ser…”
