New Personal Space

Arkay hesitated briefly as he stepped out of the cold, grey corridor and into what was now his own little apartment. Immediately to his right was a small kitchen. Ahead of him was a living room and a doorway that lead to the bathroom and bedrooms. Most of the walls were bare and empty, a space looking to be filled. But the most curious thing of all was the wall to Arkay’s left. A wall made of glass, with a similar apartment on the other side.

Sitting on the sofa opposite, behind the glass wall, was a familiar face. Kalis was clearly trying to look calm, but was failing miserably.

“Hi…” Arkay waved awkwardly.

“Hi…” Kalis muttered, shifting in his seat.

“You alright?”

“Just a bit stressed. You?”

Arkay nodded, just as a much larger Decay Lord stepped in behind him, carrying a large box and an overflowing black bag.

“Where do you want your possessions to be placed?” the Decay Lord asked.

“Uh, you can just leave it all here. I’ll sort it out in a bit.”

The Decay Lord grunted, then pulled several little boxes out of a nearby pocket. These boxes were handed to Arkay, with a message scribbled on every one.

“This is your medication. Please try to stick to the medical plan we gave you. It is important to take your medication correctly.”

Arkay nodded some more, whispering a thank you as he read the dosages on every box. The Decay Lord bowed slightly, then pointed towards a communication device attached to the wall by the kitchen. “If you need any thing, use the phone here. A list of numbers have been sent to your personal communication device.”

“Alright. Is there anything else I need to know?”

“Not right now. If you need anything, please use the phone.”

“Yes, ser.”

With a final grunt, the Decay Lord stepped back outside the small room, pulling the door shut.

Now that the Decay Lord was out of the way, Arkay felt a little bit better. He eyed his small pile of possessions, then decided he didn’t want to sort everything out yet. Instead, Arkay wandered into the apartment proper, ignoring the fact that Kalis was pretending he wasn’t watching. Thankfully, outside of the living, every other room was far more private.

As he wandered around, Arkay took a moment to pick which room he wanted to be his bedroom. All the rooms had climate control and there was no sun to speak of, so Arkay just opted for the largest room.

Now that Arkay felt a little more comfortable, he returned to the living room. Kalis was now sprawled out across the sofa in his own apartment behind the glass, but he quickly straightened himself out as he spotted Arkay.

“Not a bad place,” Arkay smiled, just a little. “Got everything I need.”

“Yeah, it’s nice. Should be identical to mine…”

“That’s good…” Arkay trailed off, spotting the big pile of stuff that he needed to sort out. After a brief moment of thought though, he tutted. “I’ll sort that stuff out later. I’m hungry.”

“You are?” Kalis asked.

“Yeah.”

“There should be cheese and bread in the kitchen.”

That sentence made Arkay smile properly. “Awesome. I was craving for a cheese toasty!”
