Tale: Telephone Call

“He fucking did what?”

“He exiled us.”

“Say it again.”

“The cunt exiled us.”

“… I don’t fucking believe it. He has no right!”

“Well, he does…”

“Well yes but the Vice General isn’t fucking dead! I can’t believe it! Now you’re even further away from me!”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s not your damn fault. You weren’t even at work. You were having lunch with me for fuck’s sake! And you’re being punished with the rest of them!”

“If someone assassinated the Keeper while you were off work, I bet my silver blood you would have been in just as shitty a situation…”

“That’s what makes it so damn unfair. Us Ksa are doomed if we do, doomed if we don’t. And you know what makes it even fucking worse?”

“What?”

“I can’t even say I won’t vote for the High General next year. BECAUSE I CAN’T FUCKING VOTE.”

“You’d have been able to if Elkay was still in power. According to Veekay, that’s what they were talking about when… it happened.”

“Is General Elkay still alive and well? How the fuck are you even going to continue to pretend that he’s dead. That gold and green look with the red eyes isn’t exactly hard to miss unless he gets a ton of body dyes.”

“He’s getting his armour done now. Couple of the other guys are too. Found a place in Vriskera where they’re too ignorant to care.”

“Some of the others are too?”

“Eksi is getting some of his armour metallized. Looks pretty neat actually.”

“What about you?”

“I like how I look. Plus, you’d never agree.”

“It’s your body.”

“Yeah but you love my blue and gold. You said it makes me look unique.”

“What the fuck are you all going to do on Portalia anyway?”

“Hah, about that… Turns out, when Elkay ran, he stole a shit ton of stuff. We’re currently rather well off, ironically.”

“What about the future?”

“I dunno. Join the Dessaron Battle System probably. They have old Kalsa Warrior teams there, I’m sure they’ll accept some Ksa teams too.”

“You think the Thanatians will accept that?”

“When Arkay’s better, he said he’ll pull some strings. Turns out he’s besties with the Raptor anyway.”

“What about us?”

“We’ll survive.”
“Will we?”

“Nenth, our love is endless. And when we’re all back on our feet, I promise I’ll visit as much as I can. I already spoke to Gener… Elkay about it, he said that I’m basically free to do what I want once we’re stable.”

“How long will that be?”

“Couple of months. But I’ll call every day! And message you as well!”

“We didn’t see much of each other anyway because of our conflicting work schedules…”

“Exactly. Plus, you can visit me. I’m going to get a place of my own when I can.”

“You’re not staying with General Elkay?”

“For now, yeah, but Elkay says that we’re essentially free now. Former Ksa. I plan to get my own job, get a place of my own. You could semi-retire and work six months of the year and spend the rest of it here with me. The weather in Vriskera is way nicer than Thre-Vretania anyway…”

“That all sounds… Exciting… I was wrong, Arksi. This isn’t as dreadful as I thought.”

“It really isn’t.”

“I have one question though… You said General Elkay is changing his looks, but he’s General Elkay Theanon, he’ll need to change his name, right?”

“Apparently we already sorted that out.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Turns out, Elkay was originally chosen by Photeianos when he was born, to become a Ksa. His name was registered as Elkay-En Photeianos before he, uh, escaped and the medics let him become a normal Rethan. He’s using that as his name now. He doesn’t like it but he has the correct ID code and everything.”

“That’s…”

“Fortunate, I know.”

“Well maybe this is good for all of you.”

“I hope so.”

“Shit.”

“What, Nenth?”

“I gotta go. Lost track of time. Promise me you’ll send some pics!”

“Will do. Love you, Nenth.”

“I love you too, Arksi. More than anything.”
“Call you tomorrow.”

“Hehe, sure. Bye!”
