Commonly Debated Issues

The Thropes have opinions on many issues, which are clear to most. The various races of the Phoviverse have opinions too. This article covers popular opinion on subjects that Thropes often argue about.

Democracy

Banikans, Cassids and Retha are strong defenders of democracy and believe it to be vital to a strong society. Vreka heavily dislike democracy and believe that the strongest should be in charge. Thanatians have a half-and-half view, they believe the strongest should rule, but that the decision of who is the strongest should be decided by everyone.

The Vohra do have some care for democracy, as they elect a Queen Prime every 10 years, but as this is only done by Vayra, with the majority having little say in the matter, there is a large amount of apathy for how one comes into power.

Religion, beliefs and cults

Since the Deitic War, religion is highly frowned upon by the majority of beings, with Cassids and Vreka flat out making cults and strict religions illegal. The Banikans and Thanatians have any non-negative feelings about the subject, and even then their views are neutral at best. Bayvak are naturally religious beings, but only in the sense of how they worship nature. The worship of Deitic beings is illegal among Banikans, Bayvak, Cassids, Retha and Vreka.

Climate Change

The Bayvak are the strongest defenders of the environment and the only race to push others to improve. While Cassid technology is sufficiently advanced enough to not cause harm to their habitat. The Retha and Vreka have improved over the years, the Vreka in particular having seen visible effects of climate change. Banikans and Thanatians don’t have enough of an imprint to affect climate change. The Vohra seem to care little about their effects on the environment.

Renewable Energy

Although the Retha have been using renewable energy (mostly solar and geothermal) since they developed the technology three thousand years ago, other races have been slow to catch up. Vohran energy is still somewhat destructive, as electric and magnetic Vohra are used to power nests (and often die in the process). The only beings with 99% clean energy are the Cassids.

Equality among Genders

Cassids care deeply for equality among males and females, very similar to that of Thropes. Vohra and Vreka though are both heavily against gender equality, due to deep society and evolutionary roots – the Vohra are ruled by females and the Vreka by males. Gender equality is hit and miss among Thanatians, as their genders are physically different from one another, but they are generally somewhat understanding.

Abortions

Abortions are illegal among Bayvak, and rarely practiced among Banikans and Thanatians due to lack of hygiene. The Vohra are pro-choice and many Vayra will use their right to not have children if they so desire. Cassids are pro-choice, with basic laws to prevent abuse. The Retha are pro-life, but abortions are legal only with eggs that have been laid and both parents agree – any eggs still in development within a Rethan’s womb cannot be aborted, except in circumstances where the mother will die. Vreka are pro-choice and have little care for unborn children, but care very much once the child is actually born.

Adoption is common among Banikans, Retha and Thanatians, with the Rethan government raising any Retha who are not adopted and often preferring that unwanted children are given up rather than killed. Vohra will very rarely adopt orphaned Vohra unless they are capable of looking after themselves.

Homosexuality

Although homosexuality is legal among all Phoviverse races, it is frowned upon by Banikans and Bayvak, as they believe it to be unnatural. Thanatians on the other hand are surprisingly open about it, particularly with female-female relationships. Vohra are also somewhat open about homosexuality, but only among Varga, many of whom are driven insane by their desire to reproduce. Relationships between Vayra are considered counter-productive and are generally rare anyway. Vreka are prude and make sure that any romance, homo- or heterosexual, is kept behind closed doors.

Retha care little about the subject, as they are hermaphrodites.

Drug Usage

While performance-enhancing drugs are illegal, drugs for entertainment use are available and perfectly legal among all races apart from the Vohra and Vreka. Alcohol is the preferred drug of choice among Retha, cannabis and other herbal remedies are used by Banikans, Bayvak and Thanatians and Cassids use a large range of manufactured drugs that have had all their downsides removed. Cassid drugs are exclusive to the Cassids, but everyone else is happy to share their recreational drugs with others.

Economy

Bayvak are socialists, Cassids and Vreka are capitalists, Vohra are communists, Retha are communo-socialists. The other races, with their minimal economies, vary between socialism and capitalism.
