Shiny New Toys

“Oh! Shiny!”

Helkas inspected the thing he had just been given. “Do we all get one of these?”

Teekay nodded. “We try to make sure that you’re not all like Litvir and put up with all sorts of stupidly old shit and refuse to upgrade. But also, speaking of Litvir, he, Retvik and Arkay just got a pay rise again, and they decided to spend the money on you lot.”

“Why?” Lissandra asked. “What have we done to deserve new stuff?”

“Retvik follows the same philosophies of equality that I do,” Elkay explained. “We make sure that everyone has their needs met. And Retvik believes that you all ought to have up to date communication technologies, the same way the rest of us do. Which means that you all do have a nice new shiny phone to use.”

“Is this because we have shitty Life Goddess communicators?” Vexer asked.

“Yep!” Teekay smiled. “Admittedly, we did mean to get you new communicators sooner rather than later but I spent a little too long looking at reviews and stuff and trying to find something for everyone. And then I decided to just have Eksi have a rummage around and find out what you all use your devices for, and then I looked up special individual devices for each of you so you all get something that you can use for what you generally use your phones for. So each one of you has a device that should fit all of your needs. And is the right size for your hands, for you larger folks.”

“Well, I appreciate the thought and care!” Vokulunaax seemed particularly happy. “Kinisis made me use that stupid tiny thing which I could barely hold! And Yisini… did not really help matters. I assume she did not really know where to get things.”

“Probably…” Atteh’Kus sighed. “Yisini did try but she did not understand. However, I have a new question. Vokulunaax, you are very happy. Ever since the wedding.”

Vokulunaax hesitated, his smile fading. “Well… uh… ever since the wedding… I… I discovered a few things…”

Vexer patted Vokulunaax on the shoulder. “Mate, we all already know you are gay.”

“But…” Vokulunaax stuttered. “But… for Thraki…”

“No one fucking cares!” Lissandra snapped. “No one here gives two fucks that you like having someone put their dick up your ass. We don’t fucking care. As long as you ain’t diddling kids and everyone fucking consents, do whatever the fuck you want!”

The other Decaylings all nodded in agreement.

“In less harsh terms, Lissandra is completely right!” Elkay calmly explained. “After all, just look at me and Teekay. We are of two different species, and we are happily married, we have been together for about seven year-strings now. And we all recently witnessed the wedding between Vikalos, Itaviir and Galyn, who are now officially a married and homosexual throuple. We do not judge. If you having a relationship with the other large, draconic beings here at Savepoint makes you happy, then you should continue having that relationship and continue being happy.”

Vokulunaax settled down. “I guess… but in the mean time, can we go back to the new phones you just got all of us? You said that Retvik, Litvir and Arkay paid for them?”

“They did, yes!” Teekay grinned. “They also got some new communicators and bits and pieces for a few other folks as well. Like, we finally got the Vohra some communicators they can properly use too. Talok wasn’t a fan at first but now she’s doing a lot better with a phone that fits her tiny fingers. But also, we wanted to reward you all a little, because all seven of you are flying through your Decayling lessons.”

“Oh, so we are doing well?” Lissandra was caught off guard by Teekay’s optimism.

“Yep!”

“Even Kayenus?”

Kayenus didn’t notice Lissandra’s insult. “I am doing good?”

“You are, yes!” Elkay continued to be reassuring. “In fact, you are doing better than Elkay-En did. Probably because Divine Guardians and Decaylings are pretty similar to each other, while Elkay-En needed to just learn a few cultural things that he never had a chance to learn in the first place.”

“That or the fact that Elkay-En is still a mental train wreck…” Vexer muttered.

“A mental train wreck?” Lissandra spat. “Elkay-En is the mental equivalent of a multi-way large passenger airship crash!”

“Alright, that is being mean!” Elkay tutted. “Elkay-En has suffered greatly, and the only reason the lot of you are here is because Elkay-En freed you rather than keeping you as his personal Divine Guardians!”

Vexer sighed, then apologised. “You’re right, I’m sorry. Anyway, is there anything we need to know about these communicators?”

Teekay thought for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, but it’s only your standard internet safety stuff. Make sure you put your own password on your phone, don’t download anything sketchy and don’t tell your passwords and pin numbers to anyone. You know, the normal stuff. Any more questions?”

“Can I use a pattern instead of a pin to unlock my phone?” Vokulunaax asked. “Because I find pressing keys a little hard sometimes.”

“Yeah, you can do that!” Teekay smiled. “You could also use voice to text on your phone so you don’t need to type.”

“Oh. Good idea!” Vokulunaax settled down properly. “Is there anything else we need, or are we free to play with our shiny new toys?”

“You are all free to go. Please head back here tomorrow morning, as you have a lesson. In the mean time, have fun!”

The Decaylings all bowed, then rushed off. Teekay and Elkay suddenly found themselves alone.

“Hm. Speaking of others, have you heard from Elkay-En?” Teekay eventually asked.

“Hm. Not really. I heard that he was busy talking to the Phantai about purchasing some land and building an oasis there or something.”

“Huh, curious. In the mean time though…” Elkay inspected Teekay somewhat. “Do you… do you want to come to my room and snuggle?”

“Only if we get something to eat first.”

Elkay grinned. “Deal.”
