Adventures in the Space Between Universes
Arkay “When I became a Decayling, I never thought I’d end up with some sort of elemental bias…” Arkay muttered, flicking a small globule of darkness between his fingers. The three young, new Decay Lords had been rather idle over the last 24 hours. Between napping and eating, they had mostly been attempting to regain their … Read more
The Decayling observatory was very quiet. Only Litvir was present, idly flicking through a small pamphlet, while occasionally scribbling down notes on a nearby piece of scrap paper. The appearance of Galyn standing in the doorway almost caught Litvir by surprise. “Are you here to check up on us?” Litvir grumbled, sitting up straight. He … Read more
“Little ones, we need to talk.” Matter folded and unfolded upon itself. The small, plastic cell melted into the world around it, before reforming into a vast, magnificent hall, decorated with floating, flickering candles and a single large table, surrounded by three chairs and an ornate throne. “That was…” Retvik trailed off, not really sure … Read more
“I am getting very tired of this…” Litvir grunted as he rolled on his back to get a better look at Retvik. Rather than resting, Retvik had been pacing up and down their little plastic cell for a while. The two Decaylings couldn’t see out of the cell’s white walls, but they were certain that … Read more
Strange, twisted symbols decorated the ground, drawn in a mixture of saliva, blood and the last few drops of ink in a small pen. The demonic script circled around a small, eerie fire lit in the centre of the area, barely illuminating the tiny space in the infinite darkness. Stepping around this ritual’s edge, muttering … Read more
“HOW YOU DOING DOWN THERE?” Arkay’s shouts were barely audible over the sound of melting metal and animalistic screams. Even telepathic communications were a struggle, barely making their way through the extreme heat of molten steel below and constant slaughter above. Retvik was extruding white hot flames as he pushed his way through the metal, … Read more
In the dark, murky forest stood a small, hastily build wooden shack. Not really a shack, more of an elevated platform with a roof. In its centre was a small fire and a trench surrounded it, catching drips of water. Really, if the shack hadn’t been in the middle of a bloody battlefield, it would … Read more
“WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS GOOD ARE YOU DOING?” Normally, one had to ask permission to step foot inside the Grand Hall of Deathven. That permission would have to be written out on paper, scanned, emailed and stamped by the right beings and then triple-confirmed by higher ranked Decay Lords before being … Read more
Thick, fresh blood ran rivers, carving trenches in the loose soil. Constant stampeding mushed the blood and dirt together, creating a horrific mulch that squished and lurched underfoot. What had been a simple attempt to find somewhere to shelter had turned into an ominous bloodbath that was only just coming to an end, if only … Read more
The Inverted Forest as just that, a forest that had been inverted. A thick metal shell, about 10km in diameter, with a hollow interior, its insides lined with thorny trees and murky undergrowths, lit by a dull, miniaturized sun that barely pumped put enough light or heat to even be considered real. This curious domain … Read more
“We do… not have very long…” Retvik’s blunt statement was met with equally blunt nods from both Arkay and Litvir. The two of them were quite busy sorting themselves out. This actually made Retvik feel rather bad, as he’d spent the last hour writing a will. Just in case. “Yeah, you realise just how quickly … Read more
“So let me get this straight and clear in my head: You are all tracking various energy levels inside me, some of which have spiked to the point that I may be considered dangerous, and the only way to stop you from knocking me out and imprisoning me forever in a steel box is for … Read more
“I am sorry to inform you that one (1) of your Decayling students is potentially unstable and must be terminated from the Decay Lord program.” Galyn read the letter, then re-read it, making sure that he was reading it correctly. He then read the letter a third time, before scrunching up the letter and throwing … Read more
Kairos as tempted to scream as the frozen water unexpectedly poured over him, but he had to restrain himself, lest someone else heard him. That being said, the last thing Kairos expected as he set foot back into his old universe was for a torrent of icy water to land on his head. “What is … Read more
The metal door slammed shut with such ferocity that the door frame was still shaking. Vibrations travelled down the corridor, making other doors shudder as well. Kairos couldn’t help but wonder what he had done wrong, but was also wondering just how much the room on the other side of the door was shaking. “That … Read more
