Adventures in the Space Between Universes
Arkay Veeyel sat in bed, not sure what to do with himself. Things lately had been a little off, to say the least. Normally, once you were there, you were stuck there, but people had been coming and going. Normal Rethans, not deranged Ksa like him. “You’re thinking loudly again…” Above him, Zitel was lying in … Read more
Verlais was trembling. Past the door opposite him was the office of the Myst Prime. Essentially Verlais’s boss. But being the lowly Myst soldier that he was, he’d never actually met the Prime. Now, suddenly, in this small base in the Vrekan territories of Portalia, he’d been called up to discuss ‘delicate’ matters. Finally, the … Read more
“Is she okay?” “Kindyna?” “Come on, wake up!” “Is she asleep? Unconscious?” “I hope she’s not comatose…” “I know what will wake her up…” Kindyna’s eyes flash open as something poked her breast. She sat bolt upright and slapped Verlais across the face. “What the ever loving fuck is wrong with you, you fucking Vrekan … Read more
“Easy now…” Verlais muttered as he supported the webbed-up creature and Arksi slowly cut through the mess. “Careful…” “You’re not helping…” “Sorry… How many have the others done?” Arksi rolled his eyes and sawed harder at the webbing, his blade going nowhere. “Including this one and that one? None. Don’t get why this isn’t working…” … Read more
What had previously been rocky fields and outcrops had turned into sheer, flat planes of nothingness. The ground was still made of rock, but it was perfectly flat, with not a single bump in it. Where there had once been trees, there were now tall, black cylinders that stood unmoving in eerie grids. Shadows of … Read more
“I think we’re totally lost…” Septimus sighed as the pair of Cassids slowed down their 4×4 truck. They’d been driving around in the dark Thanatian forest for hours, trying to stick to the rocky roads but never seeming to go anywhere. “Well you had the map!” Tertius shouted, then quickly lowered his voice. “You were … Read more
Today was supposed to be Elksia’s special day. Her birthday. But so far, it hadn’t been fun. Things had cropped up. The entire time Elksia had been indoors, the sun had been shining and the clouds had gone away. She’d been filling out forms, trying to apply for a new post with the Silver Fangs, … Read more
The crowd’s cheers were deafening. Members of every race, screaming and shouting from their seats, cheering a distinct phrase. They weren’t even in the arena, they were a good mile away in the watching bays. But even at this distance, Elkay could hear them. They’d never cheered like this before. Not this loud. Not like … Read more
The drive had been eerily quiet so far. Apart from the odd frozen animal, the roads had been rocky but barren. No life, nothing, just a cold, silent stillness, interrupted only by the roaring engines of the eight-wheeled truck. “How long have we been driving for?” Arksi asked from the back seat. “It feels like … Read more
Stasis stared at each individual Veth as he walked by, judging them by their appearance. Many of them were terrifying, with mouths full of teeth and claws as long as Stasis’s forearms. They’d formed two lines either side of the personification of Nothingness, directing him towards the large, organic dome that was Death’s home. For … Read more
“Do you think we’ve gone a bit overboard on the weapons?” Kindyna asked as she inspected a large, decorated sword and started tying ribbons on it. “I mean, we have eight rifles and there’s only four of us and Ct’Era can’t even use them so you brought two extra large grip rifles for her.” “We’re … Read more
The cafe should have been closed, but the freezing of time meant that its owner hadn’t gotten around to locking it up and flipping the sign. The owner was instead standing at the till, counting money. Kindyna shuddered as she opened the door and walked in. The team had been fine walking through the emptier … Read more
Retvik rushed into the hospital room, only to find Arkay sitting in his bed, feeling incredibly content. He looked pleased to see the former general, and waved frantically. “Retvik!” “Are you alright, kid?” Retvik glanced round for a chair, found one and pulled it up to Arkay’s bed so he could sit down. Apart from … Read more
Emthion had been waiting patiently outside Rethais’s office for about ten minutes now, and Rethais would have been content to make the new Vice General wait even longer, if it wasn’t for the fact that he wanted to go home soon. With a sigh, Rethais pushed a button on his desk and the door swung … Read more
“I thought you were trapped somewhere out there…” the Veth tutted as Tenuk dragged himself onto the beaches of Kinigi. “You know the order to kill Deitics on sight is still going on, yes?” After wiping pale, silver sand from his face, Tenuk looked up to see who was speaking to him. “Oh. Hi, Retvik. … Read more
