Raid Invitation

“Hey Arkay!”

“Hey Kalis, what’s up?”

Arkay had just been wandering to the kitchen to grab himself a drink, when Kalis knocked on the window to talk. Lately, Kalis had been playing some video games, some of which required multiple players to beat. Kalis normally played these games online with a dedicated group of online friends.

“I actually wanted to ask you something. You play a little of Dee Two, right?”

Arkay shrugged. “Yeah I’ve played it a little bit. Finally got myself to a decent level. Why do you ask?”

Kalis hesitated slightly, before shrugging himself and smiling.

“What level are you in Dee Two?” Kalis asked.

“Uh… 1525, I think…” Arkay thought for a moment. “Not that high, all things considered. But I don’t play that often. You want me to join your group or something?”

“Something like that. Say, have you ever done a raid?”

More shrugs. “Which ones? I think I only did Leviathan… Oh, and I also did Vault of Glass, and a weird one with Vex in it. The one where you have to cook the skulls in different colours of flame, then throw the skulls at the boss to make it vulnerable to damage.”

“One with Vex in it? Hm…” Kalis thought for a moment. “I haven’t done Eater of Worlds in a very, very long time. It’s a weird raid. Do you like doing the raids?”

“Yeah, I guess so. Although I’m mostly a solo player and don’t really… get invited into these things. The raids in Dee Two are pretty much impossible with random people who don’t say anything. Plus, I don’t really know how to do the newer ones.”

Kalis smiled. “That’s absolutely fine. I have a dedicated group of people who can help.”

“A group of raiders?” Arkay blinked. “Like, you do raids all the time?”

“Not all the time…” Kalis explained. “But we do spend a lot of time doing activities together. And doing the newer raids is something we do weekly.”

“Weekly? Huh…” Arkay trailed off. “I mean, that sounds like a ton of fun, but I’m a complete noob at these sort of things. No idea how to actually do the newest one.”

“That’s fine.”

“Really?”

“Yep.”

“How so?” Arkay was confused. “I don’t want to be the guy who fucks up the raid for everyone else!”

“Don’t worry, you won’t. As long as you listen to our guidance and instructions, you should be able to pull it off. I’m really experienced in the new raid as well.”

“And you’re… willing to carry me? I might be a bit… useless…”

“Nah, you’ll be fine. After all, you managed to do Vault of Glass AND Leviathan. That’s more than a lot of players have actually done.”

Arkay went back to shrugging. “Well, if you really don’t mind carrying my noob butt, then I might as well join you and have a try. Is there anything I need, outside of comms and, well, turning up?”

Kalis nodded. “Yeah there’s some stuff, but I can talk you through it. You’re at least vaguely competent, so you’ll be fine.”

“Okay… One last question though, when do we start?”

“5pm today.”

“Oh. Cool.”

“You in, Arkay?”

Arkay nodded back. “Yeah, I’m in!”
