Another Bed

Arkay let out a long, satisfied sigh as he stretched out on the bed. That particular bed didn’t belong to Arkay, it was a spare one in Velas’s spare room. Most people would find that a biy weird, but Arkay didn’t  mind. After all, Arkay had a habit of moaning really loudly at night.

Either way, Arkay was very happy. He’d had a lovely, exciting day, and was somewhat hyped for tomorrow. Although Arkay’s day had started with work, he had quickly worked through it, then taken the long route to Velas’s home on the other side of the sector. Once he’d arrived, they fooled around for a bit, had a nice shower together and spent the evening playing games with Velas’s friends. Arkay had even made a new friend as well. And now they were back home, Velas and Arkay fooled around a bit more, before going to bed.

It had been a great day, but Arkay wasn’t quite ready to sleep yet. He had a lot on his mind. Nothing bad, just slightly awkward. And since Velas was now asleep, he didn’t really have anyone to talk things through.

With another, slightly less amused sigh, Arkay sat back up and reached for his communicator. He didn’t need to talk out loud, text messages were fine. And, luckily, some of his online friends were, well, online.

One of which had already spotted Arkay and sent a message.

“Hey Arkay!”

“Hey Kallis, you alright?” Arkay typed back.

“Yeah! You’re up late. How’s things?”

Arkay paused and glanced at the nearest time reading device. Midnight. Not that late. But not early either.

“I’m ok, just restless.”

“Oh? What’s wrong?” Velas asked.

“I don’t really know, to be honest.” Arkay shifted awkwardly, trying to find a comfy position to sit in. “I just feel… Eh. I’m fine, everything is fine. Maybe I am just tired or something.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah.”

The chat went silent for a bit. Kallis had nothing to say. Arkay didn’t know what to say. All his thoughts were jumbled up and Arkay didn’t know where to start.

“So… You having fun?”

“Definitely had fun today. Just can’t settle down so I can sleep. Was a fun but busy day.”

“I get that sometimes…” Kallis wrote back. “I generally put some music on to calm myself down.”

Arkay shrugged, then laid back down, pulling a blanket over himself.

“Can’t do music. Too loud. Plus, I don’t want to wake Velas up. Even if he is in the other room.”

“You don’t share a bed?”

“Not to sleep in.”

“Why?”

“We both sleep very differently.”

“Do you snore or something?” Kallis typed, adding some small emotes to the end of his message.

“I moan in my sleep. Worse than snoring.”

Arkay suddenly found himself yawning.

“You know what, I should go to sleep. I’m tired…”

Kalis typed another emote, a smiley face. “Alright, see you when you get home!”

“Cheers, sleep well.”

“You too!”

With a small smile, Arkay turned off his communicator, then snuggled up under his blanket.

“Tomorrow will be fun too…” Arkay whispered to himself. “Just like today was…”
