New Employees

“Oh. I forgot you were still alive.”

The slight smile on Litvir’s face grew ever so slightly as he inspected the two beings in front of him. The smaller of the two was a Skyavok named Teekay, a K-Class specimen with a decade of experience in security and safety. Decked out in mostly silver armour, covering his orange, translucent plates, Teekay didn’t look the most intimidating, but he did carry a high-powered rifle and a heat-axe on his back.

The other being though is what interested Litvir the most. This one was a Rethavok, just like Litvir was. In fact, he was a former leader of the Rethavok in general. Vastly intelligent, but also a bit small. And, most curiously, Litvir was picking up on telepathic traces that were not his own.

“I did not know you had telepathy, General Elkay!” Litvir smiled some more. “Psionic powers tend to be a chore to withhold.”

‘Elkay’ tutted. “I would prefer that you call me Relkir.”

“No problem,” Litvir ignored Relkir’s vague frustration. He could tell that neither him nor the Skyavok wanted to be here. “Let me guess, Kinisis brought you here?”

“Indeed!” Teekay perked up. “The Allmaker said you didn’t have ample staff. Well, Relkir and I are going to help you with that.”

“And she just dumped you both here with no real explanation?” Litvir asked. He knew the answer was yes, but he wanted to hear it out loud.

Relkir nodded, somewhat sadly. “Yes, that is exactly what Kinisis has done. Moved us around. Mostly without warning.”

“So you two are stuck with us?”

“Indeed.”

“Very well, come with me.”

Litvir took a deep breath, sighing. Something in the back of his head was telling him that something bad could happen. However, Litvir ignored that thought and turned his attention back to the two new workers.

“First off, then, I will go over the… rules we have here, while we head off to what will be your private quarters…” Litvir started walking off with a nice, long stride that didn’t quite fit with Litvir’s personality. As the three of them walked, he started listing the names of the important areas, all the way up to what looked like a small apartment block, with two levels. The top level was all residential, but the lower floor had both a shop with glass windows and two offices.

“So let me get this straight!” Teekay exclaimed as they came to a stop. “We are basically body guards that occasionally serve food, drinks and alcohol?”

“Yes.”

Litvir’s blunt response perplexed Teekay, who, despite having years of experience of being a body guard, had never served a drink in his life.

“Oh. That’s not… very exciting…” Teekay frowned.

“Do not fret, sometimes we are actually genuinely needed here. Just not all the time,” Litvir explained. “In all honesty, Retvik, Kuta and I do the bare minimum when we can.”

“Retvik is here?” Relkir suddenly straightened himself up. “Where is he?”

“Taking a nap.”

“Oh.”

Litvir smiled some more. “Please do not fret about all of this. In a couple of days, you two will begin to like it here…” Litvir trailed off, then continued. “Anyway, now I will take you to your rooms. After that, how about we get some dinner?”

Relkir shrugged. Teekay though found himself almost cheering. “Dinner sounds great, I was getting hungry after all!”
