Rather Knocked Out

“Did he take the bait?”

Litvir smirked as he fingered his way through a magazine, flicking through the pages. He glanced up at Galyn, his smirk fading as he realised he needed to get out of Galyn’s seat.

“Took the bait and the hook as well.”

“Good. Hopefully that means we will be rid of the asshole for a while…” Galyn grunted as he reclaimed the captain’s seat, then pulled up a navigational chart, reaffirming their current position. “I think we need to go somewhere else for a bit, somewhere nicer, so you all can take a break.”

“That sounds pleasant. Much better than that damn castle, or those damned abandoned ships, or pretty much everywhere we have been so far…” Litvir knew he was being cheeky, but he could tell that Galyn was preoccupied, so he changed the subject. “Is Arkay alright?”

“He is still knocked out. Might be for a while.”

Galyn’s reply was rather nonchalant. Too much so for Litvir’s liking.

“What do you mean by that?”

“He is still asleep.”

“How comes?”

Galyn frowned, giving Litvir much more of his attention. “Arkay knocked himself out a little too hard.”

“But Arkay used… some sort of medication to knock himself out…” Litvir hesitated. “Are you saying he overdosed?”

“Yes. But what he overdosed himself with, it is mostly harmless. Arkay will basically have an angry hangover for a few ten-hours and needs to sleep it off.”

“That does not seem healthy at all.”

“He will be fine. Retvik will check on him every hour, I will move him every three hours. Arkay should be back on his feet in a nice round twenty hours, having learned his lesson.”

“What lesson?”

Galyn rolled his eyes. “Not properly measuring doses and measuring by eye instead. There are some things that need proper and accurate measuring around here. Arkay messed up but in a harmless way, so he will be fine soon.”

Litvir grunted, then shrugged. “I guess…”

“He will be fine. I am telling you. You seem to not believe me, for some reason.”

“Arkay is a funny being. He is often not fine at all, despite saying otherwise. I am concerned about him.”

Galyn shrugged. “I am a little as well, but this current situation is not the problem we should be worrying about. If you do want to be concerned, I suggest you think about other potential issues, like other Decay Lords following in Theocydes’s tracks.”

“Oh, I doubt that will be a problem!” Litvir perked up. “After all, Theocydes took what I said to heart. He did not even go to you for a sample like you expected him to.”

“Good, good…” Galyn relaxed in his seat a little, then returned his attention back to the navigational chart. He was inspecting it closely, clearly looking for something. “Anyway, to change the topic a little, what would you prefer doing, as a form of socializing and relaxation?”

“What do you mean?” Litvir asked.

“I have delayed taking you three somewhere nice for too long. But I do not know where you would like to go. There is a… divine shopping mall somewhere in our proximity, will that be pleasurable and relaxing for you?”

Litvir shrugged, then nodded. “Sure. Shopping and good, cheap food. That does sound relaxing.”
