Successful Experiment

Epani had just finished fixing up the planet when Yisini arrived. The small body had been struck by various volcanic events and had finally settled down enough for Epani to add proper water to the planet. Now that the water had also settled down, Yisini was here to add proteins and genetic material, which would one day potentially become sentient life.

“You look… not too bad… Chirpier than I expected…” Epani muttered as Yisini began her work, testing water temperatures.

“Oh, I’m doing great!”

“Really?”

Yisini dipped her tail into an ocean, then smiled to herself.

“Yep.”

“Despite…”

“Yep.”

Epani grunted. “How are you so happy? I tried to stop you and lost my two rear flippers. You… I do not even know how Kinisis punished you.”

Yisini smiled some more. She checked the temperature of a smaller sea, then began rummaging through her bag of proteins, looking for what would be best for this newly reborn planet.

“What did she do?”

“Oh, nothing much. Sure, she may have destroyed all my labs, banned me from mingling with mortals and tore out my genitals, but she demolished every experiment except the one that mattered.”

Epani hovered closer. “What do you mean?”

Yisini giggled and slithered away, heading to some of the other seas. She wanted to put different materials in each one, in order to eventually create different strains of life. Epani sighed and chased after the Allbirther.

“YISINI. What are you talking about? What experiment? The control over the Thantophor? Because that led to us all nearly being killed!”

“Yeah, I took a few steps wrong. Kinisis punished me for that. The not being allowed to have sex for a while still stings. Is Kairos doing alright without his legs? You and I are both somewhat animal-y anyway and it doesn’t really affect us, but I bet he’s pissed.”

Epani tutted. “He is damn furious. Not only is he struggling with no legs but he is yearning to be with his little friend again, and said friend is spending the next several decades of her short existence watching over our errant youngest.”

The Allbirther shrugged. After some more rummaging, she grabbed several vials from a purse made of scales and poured them into several lakes, before adding one extra vial to the largest ocean. She snapped her fingers, teleporting her little satchel away, before slithering up the nearest mountain.

“That’s fair.”

“Yisini, you have some explaining to do.”

“Also fair.” Yisini stretched herself out playfully. She may not have been allowed to have sex, but she still had options as she rubbed herself across the mountain.

“Can you NOT?” Epani snapped, suddenly grabbing Yisini’s tail and dragging her away. The two deities climbed into the stratosphere, where Epani threw Yisini into the orbit of the planet’s small, lifeless moon.

Yisini didn’t respond at first. She knew she’d pissed everyone off, including her favourite sister. So it took her a couple of seconds to work on a decent explanation.

“Sure, my experiment to directly control Arkadin failed. But you know what? We both got exactly what we wanted in the end.”

“How so?”

Yisini raised a finger. “Tell me, sister, where is Arkadin now?”

“In his home, sealed away.”

“Exactly. I admit I messed up. But Arkadin lost his cool, lost control and got himself locked up. You know that he can’t leave that house without Kinisis’s express permission? Not at all. He’s stuck in there.”

Epani blinked. “I do not follow.”

“Of course not. Because it does require tongue-twisting!” Yisini smiled. “You see, I initially planned to control Arkadin directly. But that… well, you know what happened there. But now Arkadin is under Kinisis’s control. He can’t act for himself any more.”

“So…” Epani spoke carefully. “Are you suggesting that… your experiment was successful?”

Yisini nodded with glee. “My experiment was a great success, just not in the way I imagined it to be…”
